Jason Taylor?

Kelly had a good game so this isn’t slander I promise but…i say gtech TE block him 1on1 lol

I think our best pass rusher is bain tbh but he’s out of position to be really effective every down. He should be at 3tech

Moss looks explosive off the edge in the times I’ve seen him but he’s a stick and the ot can easily push him off his rush. After qb edge should be #1 priority in the portal

Bing the corner blitz vs NC

Highly effective vs A&M

If I remember correctly, last year marshall was low in sacks but also had one of the top defenses..similar to uga like u mentioned.
Marshall actually had a pretty high sack rate last year. Last year our DEs would rush with more reckless abandon and we’d get hurt with the QB beating us on the scramble. This year the edges have made a much bigger focus on collapsing the pocket so the qb can just bolt outside the DE or between the DE and DT. We’re getting beaten a bit between the DTs specifically when we have DEs stunting inside but overall it’s been better in that regard so far

Id say we’ve abandoned more edges this year than last year but guidry mindset is much different than steele’s who would rarely blitz. This year our stunts and blitzes have gave free lanes outside, last year it was the interior lane that was always open.

But guidry does a good job of mixing up the fronts and his plan to stop the run is better fit for us than steele because he can do it without a top dline. Steele scheme didn’t fit our personnel but Id disagree with us abandoning the edges it was more about us getting out flanked because the run fits were predictable, see fsu game. Scheme was too vanilla and predictable so an offense can dictate what u run and then exploit it

Sacks themselves, while very important, aren't really the best indicator of actual pass rush success. Pressure, QB hits, and just pure W/L on reps are better. Sometimes you can win against the OT quickly, but the QB threw a slant, thus no sack. Sometimes you win and flush the QB out of the pocket and he scrambles and throws it away - no sack...

Sacks are a QB stat

We lack talent to rush the passer. Either we play safe contain outside to stop the run early downs or we rush all out on the edge and fly by the QB. Stands to reason our techniques can use a lot of work about how far to rush upfield on the ends

DEs have 0 bend and limited rush moves- a good off-season focus and portal focus this year

- Miami’s defense leads the ACC with 82 pressures on the season. That number is seventh best in the country. UM’s pressure rate is 43.2 percent on the season, which is third best in the country. When Miami rushes five players, their pressure rate jumps to 66 percent.

Absolutely nothing wrong with OPs question. It's a legitimate question/concern. @JD4 has made some excellent points but the fact is we do lack a pass russing threat off the edge. Right before the season I said that this would not be the year that Kelly would have his coming out party. That will be in 2024 barring injury. I also said that Bain would be a factor almost immediately and that we will not be able to keep him off the field. As well as Bain has been playing this year, next year he will put it all together. We are very young at DE outside of Messidor and Harvey. The problem is that Messidor has been out since ATM and Harvey is a solid role player. 2024 will be the year that our DEs begin to come into their own but even next year we will still be fairly young.

DE/DT Bain
DE Kelly
DE Wayne
DE/DT Acheampong
DE/DT Mesidor
DE Harvey
DE Moss
DE Lightfoot**
DE. Rudolph **
DE Pickett **

** 2024 commit non binding

Where's the stat on pressure rate to negative play for the offense? Are they getting pressure and giving up 3rd and 20 for a TD?

Or maybe he's 205 lol
Not saying it’s not true but it’s a fair assumption. Football is notorious for exaggerating (bigly sometimes too) dude’s height and weight.

Example, if you see a guy listed at 6’ 225lbs RB. In person a lot times they’ll be 5’10” maybe 5’11” 210-215lbs
