Jasen Lopez offered for basketball

This is an elite player.

His stats at Chaminade don’t seem real- 25 PPG on the hardwood, 1,300 yards on the field. For perspective, Jeremiah Smith had just under 1,100 yards as a junior at Chaminade.

I’d be shocked if Lopez is not a difference-maker in college.
Tryna tell yall bro is a must get!! I know were interested and hes home but how does he feel about the U anyone know?

Saying Peppers waa a back up at unc is really underrating that freaks ability.
He ended up being one of their better back ups and was playing behing guys lile Brendan Haywood who ended up good nba players. Gave them 7 and 5 in the ncaas.

I dont see none of these two having ju pep athleticism..but our bball team isnt good tbey may can help in some capacity legitimately.
Agreed.

I’m not super worried about him picking a sport - I think it’ll happen naturally. At 5’10” realistically he isn’t an NBA prospect. Doubt he continues trying to play both after a year when it’s more obvious his ceiling in football is way higher. Love this kid hope we land him.

Yep. And this pretty much means we aren't going to get Russell. No way Lucas would take two part time guys

Why not? Not like he has to use his own scholarships or NIL money.

Lucas essentially gets 2 free walkons who at the bare minimum can give him quality practice reps & runs

I was thinking the same but I think @DMoney mentioned he would take up a scholarship spot on both teams (vs being a walk on for one). Which is why basketball offering both Lopez and Russell is tricky.

So what you’re saying is he’s better than J Smith?

I think basketball now has a 15 scholarship limit. So should be no problem having two guys who are dual-sport.

Bronny James just averaged 22/5/5 in the gleague and Pat Riley was going to sign Tony Gonazalez during the lockout. If dudes can play basketball and minor league baseball, i think they can hoop with football too. Nate Robinson is the major success story that Jansen can hopefully model himself afterwards.

Peppers was a backup is kinda weak argument since UNC is UNC. Dude still put 21 and 10 in his last hoops game in college. He also played on Brendan Haywood’s aau team.

If Jansen isn’t good enough in basketball which seems like his lesser sport, he will just focus on football like Donovan McNabb did. He is definitely a better hooper than Corn Elder.
LOL ******* G league LOL. This is your argument. G league is a step above AAU. College basketball is more talented than G league

Peppers had 1 good game. Doesnt make you productive

As I said......There hasnt been productive players in both basketball and football

The NCAA closed the loophole on 2 sport athletes years ago. (Hypothetically) Lopez and Russell would count against both scholarship counts. There would have to be a rule change or a lawsuit to fix the issue.

Never questioned his ability. He is an athlete. Average under 6 points and under 4 rebounds isnt that productive. Lopez and Russel are not even highly regarded as Bball prospects. First year or 2 if they want to play bball then its ok but after that probably need to make a real business decision.

Yes but the NIL would most likely be funded from football which is the key. Basketball now has 15 ships, it’s basically like free high quality walk ons to fill the back end of the roster. The 14 and 15 spots are tricky to fill, I’m sure most bball coaches would take that arrangement.
