2026 Jasen “JRoc” Lopez 4* WR from Chaminade via True North commits to Noles [Football Thread]

The importance of local may not be what it once was…And I do think local kids may be a little spiteful right now with big NIL going to some out of state kids. UM doesn't seem to be getting ANY local discount at all…. But I do think Lopez is the type of local you need. I would imagine he has some juice after tearing cats up on the hoop court and the football field for 4 years now at a couple different schools.

And the players know the UM basketball coach is only making these offers as part of the package deal as neither was offered purely for basketball. And the truth is there is no chance Lucas was making a hard sell for either. For anyone who has been through recruiting themself or with a family member, it is pretty obvious which coach wants you, and which coach really, really wants you. The energy between the 2 examples is dramatically different.
In my OP this was the main reason. He knew Lucas wasn't going to play him much if at all. He sees playing time with the Noles Bball. team.

Think its the opposite. Local kids no what the other local kids got. For exammple Calvin Ruddel knows how much Mali Toney got because he and Mali are tight......

He is gonna need that exact amount or more and it may not be the same nil situation year to year or how much they expect...and yea Mali leveraged a big bag if yall didnt know.

Mali is better than Calvin.

CR wants to play basketball. Let him.

I’m perfectly fine turning the basketball players loose.

I will say this, Toney is turnkey, and will almost definitely be more impactful as a first year. Russell has the higher potential. But we have a guy that is playoff caliber right now in Toney, IMO.

Here’s something I don’t think is talked about enough. These kids are built differently, they are followers, me me me…lack conviction, a sense of pride and values. There are no Zo’s or Mel’s anymore, who said we want to be trailblazers, we’re staying home, **** the blue bloods, were kicking their asses.

Every generation say this type of ****. But these alpha types still exist. We just haven't seen enough of them recently to believe it, and the noise of mediocrity continues to intensify.

Agreed. Jeremiah Smith looked alpha enough on Saturdays running up to Columbus. Our alpha alumni pushed players away from Miami because they were so alpha they were more butthurt about the head coach than they loved the program. Cam Ward was alpha enough but our alpha head coach ignored clear weaknesses on the defense and it cost us a playoff run.

Is it alpha to go to a school that doesn’t pay you as high an NIL as another is willing to pay? No

Is it alpha to go to a school that matches the NIL other programs are offering but doesn’t have the same track record of success in winning at a high level or placing players in the NFL at a high level? No.

It IS alpha to expect to be paid well and even better if you’re trailblazing. Therefore Miami needs to keep paying a suck tax for now, and will still lose some local players to other programs because of how badly we’ve stunk for two decades.

Arguably we can get away matching NIL for OL, DE and TE given the coaching and program success at those spots. Making the playoffs, seeing Beck have a good season following Ward, and flipping the script at DB will be game changers in recruiting going forward forward IMO. A lot riding on this year being a good one.

I can’t even imagine what that Lucas scholarships offer looked like.

“Hey Lopez how ya doing. Look Mario held a gun to my head while chugging espresso and said to offer you. That guys nuts. Anyway how’s 10k in nil sound?”

Ive been saying they need to open up their wr board ofr a lil while.
As know way i would put my faith in flipping a kid from hattiesburg miss committed to lsu......and a legacy that has gotten all the bells n whistles n hasnt jumped in yet would lead me to opening it up to another

"Miami, Georgia Tech, NC State, and West Virginia remain as Lopez’s top schools in his recruitment despite his verbal commitment to the Seminoles.

“I’m not going to shut it down. I’m going to stay in contact with other coaches, so yeah, this isn’t me shutting down my recruitment. It’s just me committed to a school verbally.”

That November flip gonna hit like crack

Sounds as committed as Keys does.

I literally don’t get y kids commit if u’re not going to stick. Get the bags on ur tours & then commit to a school u want to be at. It’s not a good look, & I need to revisit the data of those that play games during the recruiting process & their success levels.
