2026 Jasen “JRoc” Lopez 4* WR from Chaminade via True North commits to Noles [Football Thread]

"Miami, Georgia Tech, NC State, and West Virginia remain as Lopez’s top schools in his recruitment despite his verbal commitment to the Seminoles.

“I’m not going to shut it down. I’m going to stay in contact with other coaches, so yeah, this isn’t me shutting down my recruitment. It’s just me committed to a school verbally.”

Is it alpha to go to a school that doesn’t pay you as high an NIL as another is willing to pay? No

Is it alpha to go to a school that matches the NIL other programs are offering but doesn’t have the same track record of success in winning at a high level or placing players in the NFL at a high level? No.

It IS alpha to expect to be paid well and even better if you’re trailblazing. Therefore Miami needs to keep paying a suck tax for now, and will still lose some local players to other programs because of how badly we’ve stunk for two decades.

Arguably we can get away matching NIL for OL, DE and TE given the coaching and program success at those spots. Making the playoffs, seeing Beck have a good season following Ward, and flipping the script at DB will be game changers in recruiting going forward forward IMO. A lot riding on this year being a good one.
It depends. It depends if:

  • Are they taking less NIL because they grew up as fans?
  • Are they taking less NIL because they believe that even the lower, first NIL deal doesn't matter because they'll get a second, much higher NIL deal in year 2 or 3 and ultimately come out ahead
On an unrelated to football note, you're seeing this with wrestlers who are turning down very high, guaranteed contract offers from AEW to take a fraction of that on an initial contract with WWE, simply because they grew up as fans and simply because they want an "opportunity".

Here’s something I don’t think is talked about enough. These kids are built differently, they are followers, me me me…lack conviction, a sense of pride and values. There are no Zo’s or Mel’s anymore, who said we want to be trailblazers, we’re staying home, **** the blue bloods, were kicking their asses.
Yep those days are long gone, Duke Johnson is the last day Elite day 1 difference maker SFL talent that gave that “FU I’m Miami to the bone” energy that I can remember.

Is he back to being the next Restrepo?

Restrepo was the 4th highest rated receiver we signed in 2020. And that was a pretty weak class. I understand if this dude wants to maximize his NIL value. I also understand is not wanting to overpay for a guy like him. It kind of is what it is. I’d like him in the class but I’m not going to get upset if he thinks he has better opportunities

IMO Lopez recruitment comes down to the bag. College football overall is in the growing stages of figuring out NIL.

The NFL model, sure fire guys for the most part gets paid via 2ND CONTRACT or 1ST ROUNDERS. The college equivalent is transfer portal guys and obvious cant miss prospects.

Pure speculation, I’m not offering Lopez a NIL package similar to Hayden Lowe and Jordan Lyle for an example. While having Evans, Spafford, and something set aside for a big time option.

We are figuring an optimal roster management strategy. And I’m all in on how we are going about Miami Hurricane football. That doesn’t excuse the execution but the blueprint is there and its a good one.

Lopez is not as valuable to this roster as he is to FAMU, FSU types. Good player, not throw the kitchen sink good while not being all in on football.

I don't respect that at all.

More proof (to me), that this kid is all local hype & not the real deal in the least bit.

In your opinion… are there any tri-county kids c/o 2026 that UM should have offered (and not just the 10th or 11th grade “hey we got our eye on you” offer) that they did not offer?
