“The interest that Auburn, Texas A&M, Miami and Mississippi State have shown is unmatched,” Mathews said.

“LSU, Colorado, Texas A&M, Auburn, Mississippi State, Miami and Ole Miss are the places I plan to visit in spring and I have OVs for Ole Miss, Auburn, Texas A&M and Miami.”

Visiting Saturday, will be his first visit to UM.

- The No. 26 prospect in the On300 tells On3 that he has confirmed that he will be in Coral Gables on Saturday to see what the Hurricanes are all about.

Kevin Beard has done an excellent job recruiting Mathews and the four-star has an official visit scheduled for June 20, but he is excited about getting down to south Florida before then.

“I mainly want to get down there to see what the people are like in person, learn more about how they use their receivers and find out more about their development,” Mathews told On3. “I have been talking to coach Beard a lot and I have gotten to know some of the staff over the phone, but getting down there to see what it’s really like at Miami will be great. Seeing how it feels and how everyone works will show me a lot.”

- Things can always change, but Mathews thinks this could be his last unofficial visit and that his next trip could be his official visit to Colorado on May 9. After the trip to Boulder, he visits Ole Miss (May 30), Auburn (June 6), Texas A&M (June 13) and finishes up with a trip back to Miami.

He will then look to make his decision.

“They’re definitely in my top five,” Mathews said off his Saturday Miami visit. “Their environment and the people. I can’t ask for anything else but that.”

“First time being out here, I definitely had a great time getting to have meetings with coaches and stuff, getting to see how coach (Kevin) Beard works and during the spring game watching the way they pass the ball and stuff was all amazing,” Mathews said. “…I’d definitely say the people, the culture down here, everybody is very welcoming. Had some very (good) hospitality with us. The highlight of the spring game was when No. 12 (Malachi Toney), he made a big play in the endzone.”

Mathews cited Beard as a partial reason for his interest in the Hurricanes and has continued to develop a relationship. He said he feels Beard wants him to “be a good man, not just a good football player.” He felt Miami’s offensive efficiency last season helped spur his interest as well.

“I can definitely see myself playing here,” Mathews said.
Mathews plans to announce a decision in late August or early September.
