One of my homies used to play ball with Zeke Elliot. My dawg was unreal on the field.

He started over Zeke was more productive and then streets got him and he been in and out the joint.

Still one of the most athletic humans I’ve ever seen.

We got a famous basketball court where all the ballers come and play pickup. Seen cats from college to pro come and play pickup there.

It be some popular and famous athletes getting schooled by some of these cats in the streets.

Brings back memories. Man, I came to love Detroit, but when I heard I was heading there, I have to admit I was worried. I ran a yacht for the owner of the Tigers and Domino's in the 80s. We stayed at the Roostertail near the Waterworks on Jefferson. When I first got there in 1984, I thought I was in Ft Apache and the Bronx - million dollar yachts and the ghetto a block away. The marina was 95% Black, the only brothers I ever saw on yachts in Miami and Lauderdale back then, were Bahamian Captains.

So the 2nd weekend I was there I threw a BBQ for the dock to get to know everyone - that was a great idea, gave everyone tours of the yacht we had a great time. Anytime me and the mate were gone, I left in charge the grandson of an older black gentleman who was a big wig in the union and had a gorgeous old Chris Craft Connie. It didn't hurt that the 1984 Tigers led from wire to wire for the first time since the 1927 Yankees that season, my boss's first year owning the team. I was there for parts of eight summers, that one family would take me home on Sundays to watch football and have dinner. The grandmother who came north from Mississippi during the great migration, was a heck of a cook. She couldn't believe I ate chitins. My wife and I stayed in touch with them for years.

I used to play Hoops occasionally with some guys from the hood at Bill Muncie Park. And I got to see Barry Sanders shuck and jive. Thats also a great food city; Greek Town, Mexican, Polish, Lafayette Coneys, everything.

It was a great gig, I had all sorts of cool people aboard - guests of the boss, Mayor Coleman Young, Sparky Anderson, Al Kaline, Kurt Gibson, Bob Seeger, Former Dallas QB Roger Staubach and DB Cliff Harris (One of my high school teammates went to 3 Super Bowls with them. They were pitching a development deal to the boss). I was cruising by Belle Ilse one day and there was a Black Mercedes parked next to the Mayor's house in a field in the Waterworks. It was Diana Ross in a full mink coat hugging a guy in a dress suit sitting on a 5-gallon Bucket fishing in the river. I wish I took a picture, but it wouldn't have been cool, they waved. I met her dad at a function in the Roostertail as well as Martha Reeves. Plus I got free tickets (when I was able to get away) to Tiger Stadium, the Silverdome and Joe Louis, and we had a prime spot for the Boat Races (Roostertail was named after them). Again, great city if you took the time to see it, and had some locals show it to you, like only they can.

He's the all time leader in receptions because until two years ago, this program was stuck using 30 year old offensive systems that minimized any talent advantage they may have had by playing in a phone booth. If UM continues to employ forward thinking offensive coordinators, the records will all get broken.
 
I saw him listed at 205 as a transfer and I hope that # is accurate for his sake. I thought he'd learn his lesson here but he stepped in at 250lbs at USF spring ball. Their QB play is weak and he could have easily been a long term starter there if he actually applied himself.
