Jarren The Game Manager

Jarren is a freshman qb who was benched his first season with no shot to compete for the starting job.

He was in a heated battle with two other young quarterbacks and wasn’t named starter until a week before the season.

Above everything else, his coaches are drilling him to protect the ball.

How is there any way to be surprised by his overly cautious play?

If the coaches gave him the green light to cut loose he would. This is the drawback of how the offensive staff is teaching.

He couldn’t get in the game last year and he saw how quick N’Kosi got yanked for throwing picks. The back ups are still nipping at his heels and he knows they are good.

All of that and he is playing for an oc who expects the same results in start number 1 as start number 40.

This is the point everyone has been missing and it's been in plain sight. Jarren hurt his shoulder in the CMU game. He did not want to come out of that game. Kosi isn't that far behind him and he knows if 5 gets a chance and shines its a wrap. It seems to be some military secret about the status of Jarrens shoulder. I will interested to see what happens as far as him throwing the ball next game. I think his shoulder is still hurt but he doesn't want to rest/heal it for fear he'll lose his job.

Side note. I saw Howell from NC make plays you just can't coach, football winning plays. Some guys have that and some don't, and I don't think Jarren does. I can't put my finger on it, but its almost as if Jarren looks too mechanical in the pocket, there's no natural look or feel to it.

He's definitely still hurt. But there's a difference between hurt and injured. He's DEFINITELY hurt. He's not injured. It's why I've been saying all week it's imperative that he's protected this week. If he doesn't aggravate the shoulder again, he might not need treatment on it for much longer.

I think it is the structure of unc’s offense.

They allow Howell to cut lose and make plays by design.

They literally have a play called get open where the receivers just try to shake a guy and Howell has to find him or run.

Compare this to the rigid structures of Richt and Enos’ offenses. It would make young guy look mechanical.

But Sam Howell is a true freshmen, he's not supposed to be making plays 4/5 games into is unc career. And they also have a new staff and new offensive system. Are you telling me he's doing it with a bunch of 3*s in the offensive huddle...that aint fair. Its amazing how Sam Howell, Bo Nix and TF at Boise St have limited restrictions to go out and make plays, have fun and win football games and the fanbase in mia thinks that a young qb in 2019 needs a full season or 2 to learn and develop before you cut the chord.

Good points...but true frosh and redshirts are performing all over the country and some do not have no where near the talent at the skill position surrounding them. I agree that coach Anos has a tight grip on doing it his way regardless of results. With that said, why would Anos make comments about him missing guys open downfield if he didn't want him to take those shots.

It’s not about not wanting him to take shots.

It’s about how the structure of everything around him influences him not.

I think he will get better but the system he is in is less qb friendly than what many other freshman qbs are running. The playaction makes deep shots take longer to develop and teams often play soft coverage.

Combined with us having one of the worst o lines performance wise in cfb and his first start being constantly pressured and hit, I see why there is some hesitation in his play.

How many games in a season does it take before y’all will stop saying “he’s only ___ games in”?

Baker Mayfield first 4 career starts (as a true freshman): 66% completions, 7.46 YPA, 8 TDs, 4 INTs
Tua Tagovailoa first 4 career starts (as a sophomore): 73% completions, 12.9 YPA, 12 TDs, 0 INTs
Jameis Winston first 4 career starts (as a redshirt freshman): 74% completions, 11.51 YPA, 12 TDs, 2 INTs
Deshaun Watson first 4 starts in 2015 (he played a lot in 2014 but kept getting hurt): 69% completions, 7.4 YPA, 9 TDs, 4 INTs.

Jarren Williams first 4 career starts (as a redshirt freshman): 73% completions, 8.9 YPA, 7 TDs, 0 INTs.

The point is, nobody has any **** clue how good or bad Jarren Williams is going to be. I don't know how many games it takes before we stop saying "he's only ____ games in", but it sure as **** ain't 4. If this team has 30 different problems contributing to why it's 2-2, Jarren is probably #28 or #29. Let the kid play for a while before you anoint or destroy him.

Agreed. I need to see the kid play behind a semi-decent O-line before I making any judgement and that's not likely going to happen this year.

I tell you what boys....I'm so glad we're done with bye weeks for a while because we've argued the same points 50 different ways. Between the Enos, Williams, OL debates we've 'forum coached' this team in a national powerhouse and they haven't played a snap lol

COME ON SATURDAY!!!!

The team is averaging 8.9 yards every time he throws the ball. That's top 20 in the country. I'm not sure how anyone can be critical of what he's done, especially since the gator game.

But have you seen Tate's Social Media pages?!?! We'd for sure be 4-0 bro

Jarren's problem with deep balls appears to be a mix of questionable arm strength, timing, mechanics.

All things that can be improved upon. But how soon?

Not even going to begin reading this nonsense of a thread. A game manager is a nice way of saying a QB has an under average arm and can only make easy throws. Jarren has shown he has as good of an arm and accuracy as anyone in college. He just needs to get better at pocket presence and the deep ball. This guy has already made big time throws. A game manager doesn’t make big time throws. Bunch of mularkey.
