I'm sure Swasey will have something for him before he gets on campus. He probably won't touch the field until he reaches certain benchmarks in his strength and conditioning. And if FB/RB Augustus Edwards comes through, that would give MIAMI seven backs. We know what Duke brings to the table; Ed Clements and/or Danny Dillard must be some kind of factor. Hopefully, he can be ready for the turds----he's got 8 months

At the risk of my whole reputation thus far, I'm gonna tell you what I think about Alex Collins.

I've visited South Plantation three times during last season, seen all the ups and downs. I've talked to all the coaches at practice, been on the sidelines during games. I've seen Alex dominate a game, I've seen him rendered to regular because of nicks and bruises.

I think Alex is naturally gifted, don't get me wrong. He shows plenty of natural instincts which you can't coach. He's good in the open field and naturally physical, doesn't shy away at contact and is good in traffic, breaking tackles and finding an opening and accelerating through the hole.

However, I know that he was worn down after 100, 125 carries, began to pick up nicks and bruises, which is natural for a runner of his style. What concerns me is 100 carries after ACC contact; is he gonna hold up physically? I have my doubts because Corch Gatewood told me he doesn't promote offseason weight lifting. What, are you kidding me? Yes, Corch himself told me he doesn't require lifting, instead promotes the "high school experience." Is it really surprising to find this out since South Plantation has never really been a difference maker on the South Florida HS football scene until this year and he had a couple of natural athletes? Answer is, absolutely not. South Plantation, as much as I was welcomed and saw inside stuff, the program is NOT well coached, outside of DB Coach Freeman which I saw in action and loved.

I digress. My main concern is Collins' durability. I saw how he handled a shoulder injury, including a finger injury late in the season after a hundred plus carries. I know he was basically their offense, but the tread on his tires over the course of an ACC season right now is questionable in my eyes because I have reason to believe he's not physically ready for the punishment over four months.

Why?, you say? I saw him play nicked, so did Peter. He was ineffective. Very. You have to play nicked in the ACC, it's part of the game. 100% healthy, he's a great back. I love what he brings. But I have serious questions about durability and effectiveness after mid-October if he were to get a heavy dose of carries because of the lack of training in high school.

And some of you guys like canesman, CaneBoss, Crispy, miamimike, Plzwork4... lay off my man because he echoed what I told him after I saw and experienced. You keyboard scouts amuse me sometimes.

You're putting your entire 29 posts of good will at risk here? You sure you want to make that move?

Do you think some of his injuries/conditioning issues stem from him not being serious about workouts until recently? He said he didnt even lift weights headed into his senior year.

I think he's a kid who will sink or swim with UTough. He's obviously physically gifted and could be a scary running back if he hits the gym hard enough.

On a side note, I'm very shocked Guntwood didn't put a big emphasis on conditioning and weight training.

I think a lot of those concerns will be mitigated by strength and conditioning and experience. He's only been playing football for a couple of years. He's still learning how to be a running back and avoid unneccessry contact. I think he'll be fine.

FWIW, I know an 8A school's Athletic Director (a school who played South Plantation 2 times this past year) who had the same opinion on AC when I told him how coveted a UM recruit he was.
Side note: he also had strong opinions on RR... Very strong.

That the kid is trouble, surrounds himself with the wrong people, and is dumb as two planks. Something about having to stand-up/vouch for him in court. That's all I understood, I didn't want to pry into the kids personal life or the situation.

Other opinions had on recruits: Coley is a baller, and Atlantic has some good players on their line (Bryant).

I am making this comment not in regard to collins but as a general statement.

A lot of times when a hs program has not had a lot of success and has a stud, all the rules go out the window for that student. That's when college coaches has to project and really take a shot in the dark for a kid. How will he react to a weight program, what is his work ethic like, how much do they need to be coddled, etc.

When schools come by our program we encourage them to see our kids workout. The weight room is what separates a lot of kids.

The lack of weight room for Collins = an even higher ceiling to him and his game. That is a plus

I saw the kid play nole ball (its a generic football game that everyone plays at camps). It was a 2 hand touch game and the kid went the length of the field untouched. Never seen anything like it.

FWIW..

http://www.cbssports.com/collegefoot...mmitted-talent

5. Matthew Thomas, OLB - Miami vs. FSU vs. Alabama vs. USC vs. Georgia: The latest in a rich pipeline of talent to come out of Miami's Booker T. Washington High School, Thomas is ranked as the country's No. 14 overall prospect. Many figured Thomas would likely end up as a Seminole, but word is Miami has made up a lot of ground, and it certainly didn't hurt the Canes' chances when James Coley, the coach recruiting the linebacker for the Noles, left FSU to become the Canes offensive coordinator.

7. Alex Collins, RB - Miami vs. Arkansas vs. Florida vs. FSU vs. Wisconsin: The speedy back from Broward County is the country's top-ranked running back and would be a huge pick-up for anyone but especially for new Razorback coach Bret Bielema. This is another top recruit who at one point seemed likely headed to FSU but word is the Noles chances have been hurt by more of the coaching turnover. In this case, when RB coach Eddie Gran left Tallahassee to become the OC at Cincinnati.

"Collins, by a hair, will head to Fayetteville," predicted Shurburtt.

Fishbein has basically sworn on his life that Bostwick is headed to UF. He seems really confident on that....I would be floored if that happens.
