James Williams Decommits

I will keep saying this...at somebody point in the near future CFB is going to be upended. There are several issues simmering:

1. Universities are earning insane amounts of revenue, but players get nothing
2. Public dollars are going towards funding a sport that produces head trauma
3. Student activity fees are being raised to help finance these programs, that despite the insane amount of revenue do not generally create enough to be profitable
4. There is an arms race to produce the most opulent athletic facility possible. Luxurious confines with water slides and golf courses. These are not available to common students, just the players.
5. Several schools and their boosters are likely spending more paying players and their families under the table that professional sports teams. Who spends more to get their players? Alabama? Or a NBA G League or XFL team? If one player can supposedly get 250K - imagine what the entire Crimson Tide team costs.

During the next recession, a politician is going to start pointing this out. And college students - facing crippling debt yet unable to even enter the palatial facilities built for players - will start mobilizing. This will become an issue in the decade to come, and I anticipate that multiple schools - if not entire states - will drop college football. Ironically I think Miami might be better situated to weather these issues than perhaps a U Cal, Tenn, or FSU.

1) kids get a free education, best nutrition, best coaches, best training, manicured fields, playing on tv for exposure to the NFL, playing in front of thousands of kids....sure they get nothing

Yeah but bama has a very small population. Most of their fans are bandwagon.

What?

That team is that states beach/amusement park/casino and NFL team.

I'm not talking about transplants like me but the people who's roots go way back in this state. The day you pop out of mama. You're either a bama fan or Auburn fan. The vast majority is bama.

The state has 4.8 mil population. I would say at the min. 3 mil are bama fans. Even when they sucked before Saban. They still filled the stadium. Acted as if Bear was still coaching and they were heading for the title game every year.

Poor choice of words. In much of the public's eye, and a growing portion of the sports media, the perception is that it is an inequitable tradeoff. But I agree - there is tremendous value in the scholarship. Use a school like Baylor for example - that's 69K per year.

Miami was like that as well. I lived out west when we were the shizznick. I saw Miami gear out there and a lot of dudes were cane fans that weren’t from Florida at all. Everyone likes a winner. The heat had fans all over the country when bron was here.
Kids want to follow. No one wants to be the man or the team that says we put Miami back on the map. Kids out there risking their bodies but won’t risk the sure thing. The sure thing is that if Miami wins were a national brand plain and simple.
What kids need to know is that winnng here will also bring fans out he woodwork and make new ones. It’s not like Clemson of all places had this huge national following before they started winning but now they have fans everywhere as well.
Think were all on different pages here. Yes winning is relevant... however players and fans have nothing to do with each other. The percentage of elite kids or even close who choose a school based upon a following is beyond minuscule. If everything was equal sure that would be valid. But let's not even pretend it is. Our success or failure depends in large part in re establishing what it is to be a MIAMI HURRICANE. I know its cliche to plenty. But for us this **** is blood. We need a staff and leaders in the locker room who PREACH ACCOUNTABILITY. Once we establish accountability, we establish core values,we establish that chain of command where kids ready to pick up that sword. ***** A RAP! We need kids in this locker room who bleed this orange and green. That starts with the staff. Starts with evaluating kids who will not tolerate losing. Honestly this **** is embarrassing we gotta keep having this conversation. Cause my brothers know what this represents. I make these boys when they come to my crib watch film after film of how we were back in our day. I've had them talk to plenty of people who bled for this ****. Baby steps. But it's coming long as our staff demands it. Fvck this social media bull**** of telling yall, and telling Susan whatever the fvck her name is, what we demand. Get in that **** locker room and make a mutha ****** fear that lisp. Yall have a great night. I'm gonna go smash me a stripper or two.

Couldn’t agree more about accountability.

If you don’t mind me asking, why did you chose Miami? If I’m not mistaken, you came in during probation years.

My question is this, Does todays kids really care about all that?

you missed the entire point of his post.

But to your point... the nfl will not allow a kid to play until 3 years out of college, so kids aren’t allowed to enter into a career without playing for free. Kids aren’t even allowed to profit off their own likeness.

For those of us who believe in free markets, the above is akin to immorality. For those w socialist leanings like yourself, I gather, it’s ok.

I guess it’s a matter of perspective.

These kids making jokes about the bag game the NCAA is a joke. The way I see it we could eaither get down or laydown.

This **** is pathetic. The dude says on tape that he visited Baga 3 times, and then says he officially visited them 4 times.

Took his girl to the prom in a Bentley. Couldn’t even answer the question when asked who paid for it. Interviewer bailed him out by saying his “dad”. **** is comical at this point.

It’s more of a necessary evil than anything. I’m the furthest thing from a socialist and I understand the NCAA model. They are in it to make money off the backs of others. What’s more free market than that?

It’s the same thing as any profession that requires a degree. Do you always need one for the job? No, but they’d rather have someone else teach you. Anything that requires higher education could be taught by actual employers at an extreme amount of cost. That is the same as the NFL building a minor league system and taking kids out of high school. Why would they do that when they already have a developmental league for free?

It's not that hard to get an affordable Bentley (rental) for 5 hours if you know people.

It's got to get going this season my man. Or it's just going to be a rinse and repeat. Of what we've seen since our last title.

Nobody in the Coastal should even make us break a sweat, ever. Our toughest games should be FSU/Clemson and OOC teams.

UNC has some talent (most of them was suspended/injured last year), and VT has a pretty good staff and is also a rival. They both always give us their all, and cant be discounted. Pitt also has their moments of being extremely discipline to the point that it's hard to blow them out. UVA and Duke both have a sturdy defense but can't compare athletically. We dont have the overall team speed advantage over these guys anymore. People swear that the coastal is full of G5 quality teams lol.

Free market would be legislation forcing universities to allow a player to shop his services.

Besides, What’s that got to do with a kid getting $15 for his signature?

I hear you man. A culture needs to be re-established. As far as the stripper thing, one is good but 2 is better.
Go Canes!!
