Cocoa (FL) 2015 signee Jamel Dean's career at Ohio State is over before it even really had a chance to begin.
Originally reported by Eleven Warriors, 247Sports was able to confirm the report of Dean's departure from the program with a source close to the player.
Dean, who was enrolled at Ohio State since January, has yet to be medically cleared by team doctors and trainers after suffering multiple knee injuries in high school. There were rumors during winter conditioning that this may be the case with Dean, but an OSU spokesman told Bucknuts at the beginning of spring practice that he was not aware of Dean potentially leaving the program.
While the Ohio State doctors have not cleared Dean, sources at Cocoa tell Bucknuts that the defensive back has indeed been cleared by external doctors (including Dr. James Andrews) and that they believe he will be able to play college football. Word is that Ohio State is willing to offer a medical hardship so that Dean can remain on scholarship in an academic capacity, but that the player wants to continue his football career. A number of programs have already expressed interest in Dean, who is expected to transfer to his new school for summer semester.
Dean was rated as a 4-star prospect, No. 339 overall, the No. 32 cornerback, and No. 50 player in Florida per the Class of 2015 247Sports Composite Rankings.
