Thompson will return to Miami for an official visit on June 5. He also plans to make official visits to Auburn, Michigan and Ohio State.

Agree. Although I’d love for us to snag both, can never have enough of those IMO. Muhammad seems to be turning into another ND battle as well, could affect some things.

Maybe Thompson just isn’t in the mold of what the staff wants at DT and if so fine but otherwise I don’t believe in turning down blue chip war gorillas, no racist, that want in. Take them all and let them figure it out on the field.

Ya I hear you…I think he is ON THE CUSP being one guy they may make an exception for, especially if his weight is under control. They have been recruiting this kid for a long time.

His August commitment is on his b-day, a family member's b-day etc. etc…So for all we know he is a silent, because he has come out in RECENT interviews and said UM is #1. But again there are a lot of possible scenarios of staff's interest on this player right now. Hard to get the read…

-Definite take and gonna be a Cane?
-Close to being take but worried about weight?
-Just waiting on Folu then he goes from "high on the board" to "ehhh we'll see if he has room"

And this is before we get in to how far we will splurge compared to the school's trailing us with NIL.

JMO, I'd like to see him in this class, he's big and mean and local…And adamant he wants to be at UM.

And also we signed 5 DTs last year and brought 2 from the portal,one has 2 years left to play and the other 3 plus Newton who is a redshirt freshman.That's 8 DTs and have 2 committed for this class,10 total,we don't need any more depth or projects,what we need is a can't miss impact type to replace the likely 2 first rounders we're losing.
 
Go get this kid! I don't believe in turning down kids with this type of profile because there may be other national prospects who are higher on our board! You don't ever turn away kids like this provided they fit our culture. We have an excellent staff and Coach Lewis will develop him.

The culture part is pretty important…in recruiting in starting to assume that if there’s an obvious local kid that we’re just not hot on, that’s probably why.

That's a great point. It's just that I've never heard of anything negative about Thompson that would indicate a bad cultural fit. Still it is a possibility.
