SIAP, and I love what he brings on defense but maybe he should be taken off the return units. Rewatching the Stanford game and If you go back and watch the returns he's constantly looking back at the ball carrier instead of running ahead or looking for blocks. This is the most glaring one, Mali walks in for a TD if Jakobe isn't turning around to watch and instead goes and gets his hands on the punter. I know these plays are happening extremely fast but he just doesn't seem to have good instincts when it comes to blocking.

He was 2 for 2 on keeping Toney from scoring. Really good defensive stats. HA

Bain did the same thing on Bissainthe INT, not only did he not block the guy who ended up tackling bissainthe before TD, he picked his own guy who was trying to block the guy who made tackle.. smfh some bull in a china shop type clumsiness.. Or he got a parlay and avoid sacks and def TDs or some ****..

Hetherman instilled swarm to the ball into their heads so good, they see no color, uniforms or faces. There are no teammates. There is ball & there is body. Separate the two at any and all costs i guess. 😭

Defensive guys dont know how to block. And I doubt they even practice it. Happens all the time in the NFL. Normally after a turnover, the defensive players look silly trying to block.

Yeah that experiment needs to end. I had no idea he was the player who got in the way of both PRs. These guys I think sometimes are so shocked we finally have someone who can take it to the house they get too excited and just look for anyone to hit and lose focus. That goes for interception returns too..Lol. Have we had an interception return or PR/KR in the entire Mario era?

Kam Kitchens twice.

You’re right in theory but he’s actually caught between blocking that guy behind Mali or turning for the defender in front…

Before he could turn Mali was in his jockstrap…

You see a lot of this on kick/punt returns because of the blocking philosophy of the coaches…

Hi I'm Tom.

Not wrong but also probably too harsh

Toney was running around like a jack rabbit

Tough to block for a guy that’s literally a one man show behind you fighting for his life

Yeah I know but I just noticed it happening multiple times when I was rewatching the game. Obviously it didn't end up affecting the outcome of the game but our drive after this return was the one where the Stanford DT blew up Carpenter and they stuffed us on 4th and 1. This kind of thing can cost us in a playoff caliber game. Especially when our offense has been so stagnant at times.
