Coming into the 2025-26 college basketball season, the Miami Hurricanes started out with tons of easy tune-up games, which is good for a team coming off one of the worst seasons in history. However, it doesn't really help their resume. So, as a result, coming into this season, it is a different story entirely.
Jai Lucas's Miami Hurricanes squad will start the season against the projected No. 1 team, the Florida Gators, on November 2nd. Todd Golden has done an incredible job retaining four-out-of-five starters from this past season (Boogie Fland, Alex Condon, Rueben Chinyelu, and Thomas Haugh), while adding Kentucky guard transfer Denzel Aberdeen to the roster. Every major ranking site has the Gators as the clear cut No. 1 team in the country. The two teams met this past season in Jacksonville, where the Gators came out on top 82-68. This will be a great first game of the year for the Miami Hurricanes and Jai Lucas.
The Hurricanes were also invited to the Players Era in-season tournament, where the Hurricanes will be playing TCU, with a projected second-round matchup against the defending national champions, the Michigan Wolverines. Even if Miami loses some of these games, it shows that the Hurricanes are battle tested and will have a better resume going into March when the committee chooses your team.
The Hurricanes will also have to play in the ACC/SEC Challenge; Miami went 1-2 in the last three years of the challenge, losing to Kentucky and Arkansas, and beating Ole Miss this past season. Miami is also set to face Sean Miller's Texas Longhorns squad, where both teams will meet in Houston, Texas. Miller has done a solid job in the transfer portal landing (Mikey Lewis, Isaiah Johnson, Amari Evans, David Punch, Elyjah Freeman).
