Brooklyn (NY) ASA College OT Jahair Jones is getting the full-court press from Miami coaches.
Coach Al Golden visited him at Brooklyn (NY) ASA College yesterday with James Coley and Mark D'Onofrio in tow, but coaches didn't stop there.
They flew to his home state Maryland immediately afterward to meet with his mother and grandmother.
"That showed that they really care about my best interests," Jones said.
Jones said when he met with coaches "They were saying how they had a great quarterback, how they ran the offense, that they'll be an ACC championship contender. They said that they made mistakes they shouldn't have made this season. And going down there on my visit, I hadn't been to Miami before and I loved it."
Coaches told him they want him at left tackle and that he can compete to play right away.
Jones says the attention from Miami has paid off.
"Miami, they're the top one for me now," Jones said.
He's choosing between UM and Virginia Tech and plans to announce Dec. 18 after he returns home for the holidays.
Virginia Tech coaches have already taken an in-home visit with him - "I'm done with home visits," he said.
So the Canes' chances of staying on top through when he signs (he's an early arrival)?
"A big chance, 60-40," Jones said.
He says what will make the final difference is when he talks more with his family.
"They feel comfortable with Miami, but they're also comfortable with Tech," Jones said. "I'll talk to my mom and figure out that stuff. She says go with the best opportunity for me, the best exposure."
