Jaelan Phillips "I Did Not Know what Cover 3 was"

after 3 games?! well dam.. lol
The man was struggling to see playing time... in preseason! You keep an eye out for him when he finally does get on the field and he can't get off his block. Idk, haven't the past few years proven that DE is one of the easier positions to transition to the pros in? Terrible start for ol' JP

We drafted bustua coming off a major surgery then drafted 50 DBs instead of an Oline. Igbo has looked real nice on the sidelines. Imagine having Herbert or Sewell. Better yet, AND.
Never was a tua believer. JACKSON is jonathan taylor all over again.

Gotta be an exaggeration. There’s video games and a lifetime playing football. He either doesn’t pay attention to anything or he’s mostly joking.

It's not

I wouldn't give people like that any attention. They don't understand the scheme of the Dolphins and how difficult it is to learn for young players. And regardless it's just 2 Games in, like seriously the man has played in 2 NFL games and you already have Miami fans calling him a bust. Absolutely crazy, if he's doing the same thing in week 14 then maybe be a little bit worried but still he's a rookie. I don't worry about players being a bust until at minimum Midway through their 2nd season

There are three things you learn for sure at the high school level - Cover 1, Cover 2 & Cover 3. Then you learn the different variations. WTF is he talking about? But hey, puts the spot light on Manny & if it helps to get him fired and replaced with Mario, than shame on Manny!! Gotta go!

He played in both preseason games and got a lot of snaps

This is another indictment of Chris Grier. An aspiring pro football player should know wtf cover 3 means.
Shoot even when I played ball I knew what coverage the DBs had to do. I used to even tell my OLB where to lineup.

Guess what GR50 probably wasn’t taught cover 3 at UM as well and he had 2 sacks this Sunday. Calais Campbell probably didn’t tap Randy on his shoulder and ask at what depth the FS is in Cover 3.

He job at UM was to rush the QB, tackle the QB, set the edge, contain and tackle the ball.

If knowing cover 3 was important to the Dolphins, then why didn’t they whiteboard this with Phillips before the drafted him? Did they not tell him that he was going to be switched to OLB?

Man you guys are brutal. This is very normal, especially for someone who was in and out of football for years.

Personally I'd rather our guys know how to tackle vs our defensive ends knowing responsibilities of outside backers in Cover 3, but I guess I'm weird. I think running, catching, blocking, and tackling would help stop looking like crap far more than a rush end knowing what to do in Cover 3 would.
obviously, but its part of the problem. all of the funamental stuff gets easier once youre lined up right

He was a rush end in a 4-3 and now he's playing OLB on an odd front defense. Why would he need to know coverages when he was here? All you guys do is cry when we ask a rush end to drop into a zone, and then you cry when they say they don't know coverages too? lol
Exactly! All of this.

JP was banged up and missed quite a bit of preseason resulting in not getting the reps he needed. That didn't help and he's playing in a 3-4 Defense that is infinitely more complicated than what he's ever been associated with. Add to it that he's now playing OLB and not DE. If anything, I'd question the Dolphins GM for drafting JP. Solid upside, playing potentially in the wrong scheme. Hence, the growing pains.

Phillips is turning out to be a bust anyways. Flat track bully that beat up on Coastal OL. Look at Parsons, Rosseau and the Baltimore rookie end creating an instant impact while Phillips takes 6 seconds to get past an OT. Dude coasted off his size and now has no idea what's going on.
buffalo has its edge defenders attack. miami has them contain.

his playstyle doesnt suit flores defense.

No way this is the same message board that was having fits of Tyriq McCord and “Its Shayonne Green’s team” lined up on WRs in coverage upset about Manny not teaching his DEs about Cover 3.

This can’t be the same message board.

I think there was a game against Pitt when this happened and folks lost their minds. Now there is a segment that’s heated because Phillips wasn’t equipped with knowing who’s responsibility is to cover the deep 3rd of the field.

Parsons would have been the ideal fit for his scheme.

I'm sure his comment was taken out of context but it's really not a big deal. Most DL have no clue what's going on behind them.

Y'all think DB's know everything about fronts, blitzes and stunts? (they don't)

Players generally only know THEIR responsibility. That's why so many elite players turn out to be ****** coaches. LOL
