jaelan phillips = chase young

If he comes back he will be on everyone’s watch list for an early day 1 pick.
with what we'll have i can't see how he's not a top 3 pick ... i'm watching chase young and thinking to myself that's jaelan phillips, he just needs the national recognition

He definitely could be at chase young's 2019 level. I'd say the way he's playing he's a little better than what young was as a junior. They're equal size. Chase was 6-5 264 and Phillips is 6-5 266. I think Phillips motor is better but young has a better get off at the snap. I doubt he's staying though. It'd be nice to keep someone like bama or clemson

Is already in the conversation. Let the kid find his dream. He’s earned this
For real. I don't get the fascination with wanting guys to make bad career decisions just for the benefit of your fandom. Phillips has busted his *** every play to earn his moment.

Miami will never be Clem$on or Baga where early round picks inexplicably return to school.

Chase uses his hands A LOT better and that's mostly bc of Johnson (OSUs DL Coach)

no fascination ... i'm watching chase young and i'm thinking to myself the effort and movement screams phillips, however young was celebrated for an entire year of college football and turned it in to a top 3 pick ... it's on him if he goes or stays ... but based on the brand we provide and his raw talent, plus a year of national recognition, he could be set for life ala young

He might be a R1 player right now. He is certainly playing like it.

6.5 sacks. 5 sacks in the last 3 games. He will likely get 1-2 versus UNC. If Miami still plays GaTech, add another 1-2. Bowl game another 1-2 (he's that hot right now and you can tell in his play on the field its BAG SZN, playing with purpose). He's going to be a 10+ sack guy.

He's already at 14 TFL with 9.5 in the past 3 games. He's cooking with gas rn and playing with cero miedo.

I would love for him to come back. I think 2021 could be special with D'Eriq King and Jaelan Phillips coming back to Coral Gables...but this man is about to become a millionaire and he should go.

K'Lavon Chaisson went mid-R1. He was unrefined but all sorts of traits on traits on traits and twitch for days. I don't see why Phillips isn't in the same mold with similar draft stock. Go be a millionaire and thanks for balling out in a 10-1 season and go beat up the gators or the aggie cuck on your way out.

I agree with you — the kid has definitely put in the work, but the difference between a top-5 pick and a bottom-5 first round pick is about $15 million. He’ll never make that back up.

If money is at least a part of the journey, then he might want to consider staying (and I’m always ”go now”).

100% this. Just get that insurance policy and your good to go.

From your mouth to god’s ears.
I have no issue with him declaring. But man would it be great to have him another year.

5th pick 2020 - Tua $19.6M ($30.2M - guaranteed)
25th pick 2020 - Aiyuk $6.7M ($12.5M - guaranteed)
32nd pick 2020 - Edwards-Helairen $5.43M ($10.82M - guaranteed)

If he leaves I’ll genuinely be happy for him, but as I said previously: you can’t just make up $15M over the course of an NFL career.

... and if Miami was a Playoff-bound team annually, like Bama and Clemson, more of these guys would stay.

Not too many kids are going to risk their bodies to come back to a Miami program that has reached the ACC title game once in 17 seasons.

Need too start winning big with the guys the Canes have, when the Canes have them, before talented guys start coming back for senior seasons (with shots at national titles.)

i should have brought the numbers to my argument ... but thank you

The main difference between Chase Young and Jaelen Phillips is the defensive line Coach Larry Johnson. Phillips plays with a helluva motor but his pass rush moves aren't as refined as Young's. That's due to Young being taught by the best dline coach in college football in Johnson.

Ivey Blades Bolden should comeback. Their either UDFA or late picks. I usually only side with leaving early for 2 reasons. 1 your a RB and 2 your an early pick (1st or 2nd round).

As much as I want Phillips to stay and ballout the kid owes us nothing hes played hard for us and needs to go get paid. All i ask is if we finish strong n meet UF in the OB he doesnt opt out.
