Jacob and wingo

Upshaws drop was behind him and the defender nearly got a hand on it. Should have just ran or dumped it to Briggs. Mensah pulled a cam ward there threading the needle to get more yards when the easy pass was right there. He missed a lot of reads.
Fair point especially on the Briggs point but it hit his hands. High level receivers make that catch. Full transparency, I’m still a huge Upshaw fan. My opinion is he needs to make that catch. I have no problem w your take as well

Yeah should have gone to the easier play which was to Briggs however even though it was behind him a little, he could have caught it. But last week towards the end of the regulation vs fsu I remember A drop from Upshaw as well
Asking a WR to come to a full stop and reach behind themselves to make a grab is tough, especially in traffic. Yes, he could have caught it, but it’s a very low percentage

He was wide open and the ball hit Upshaw in both hands with nobody near him. Catch the football. QBs are taught to read deep to short. That was the right read. Catch it when it hits you in the hands.

Also Barkate’s play on the post wasn’t a drop it was a great play by the DB. Also not a great throw by Mensah, he threw more of a jump ball versus letting Barkate run underneath it.

Mensah was unreal yesterday. Nobody in America is playing the sport at a higher level right now. And it surely helps to be throwing to a cyborg like Malachi.

A few dropped passes. On that first one I think Mensah could have led him to the middle of the field more but honestly that was an excellent play by the db.
He did not drop a few passes - one was a great play by the defender to knock it out and the other was DPI.

If we're benching players for that, why the **** is SJ still waddling out there at RG?! Or Thornton at NB?

Mensah needs to understand no one can stop this offense but themselves. Throw the ball to Briggs, get the 1st and move on.

I agree we are overusing Mali at this point. He now has a shoulder, an oblique and an ankle. Why the **** is Mensah throwing it to him over the middle into triple coverage when the game is over? He easily could had gotten a concussion. As mentioned, upshaw was wide open.

Love what I saw from Wingo and Jacobs. Get those guys more involved. You can bet Belicheats entire game plan will solely be focused on erasing Mali. Run the ball and spread it out when we throw. This will be a great test for Mensah to not force it to the #1.

And even with his high level play there are still plays he can improve on ala that hospital ball to Toney with multiple defenders around vs working the route to Upshaw who was wide open on the left side of the field. Also that 4th down play, he hit Upshaw who dropped it but Briggs was wide open there or even he could have run for the first down. It’s nitpicking but no doubt he’s the best qb in America still

From previous games and interviews it seems that Dawson does have much say on who gets in the game and who doesn’t… the position coaches do.

I’m sure his opinion matters through the week to a degree but in game the decision comes from elsewhere.
"A'ight, imma call this PA rollout pass to the TE. Who's playing TE on this play? A walkon... erm, ok, spot the ball I guess".

Can't see it myself.

Different position coaches, different standards

Not many WRs can make the grab. You only have a short time to adjust and try to grab it while twisting and contorting your body to reach back. Then the defender coming inches from tipping it changes your process because now you have to try and see and project where the tipped pass may land to at least try not to keep the defenders from catching it. All that in the blink of an eye. Don’t put your guys in that situation, QB, just take the first down! Nearly got Mali destroyed on another where Upshaw was wide open because the safety doubled Mali.

If he’s open he’s open but yeah . I dont Think we forced it to him too much other than maybe a few of those screens and that 1 ball down the middle of the field

He was open. He wasn’t in traffic. He had at least 4-5 yards between him and the nearest defender. It was slightly behind him but the ball hit him in both hands.

It might be tough for YOU to catch that ball but that ball should be caught by even optimist level players.

We will agree to agree on the Briggs point and agree to disagree on Upshaw. Not saying it’s an easy catch but a catch he should make as it hit him in his hands

Ya’ll might kill me but we are running toney into the ground imo. And i worry about him lasting into brutal playoff stretch. Dnt get me wrong, he’s elite and needs most touches but 19 catches??!?!? And the next most wr’s had 3. Spread the ball around.
Should have sat 2nd half

On the topic of other receivers, I really like the way this Vance Spafford kid runs routes. He's super crisp. They haven't gone to him much but I do like the way the staff has been grooming him. He's got blocking reps at Clemson and a target against FSU. Against Central Michigan he ran a beautiful out & up deep route and was wide open but Nickel went to Wingo (deep in route) on the other side of the field.
