This is common for every single college student during their Freshman year, particularly the kids out of state. You miss the home cooked meals, parents and siblings, hometown friends, etc. It's never talked about enough on here because a lot of players are local. Mark Fletcher probably drives home to see his mom every other day. Malachi Toney has the luxury of having his brother on the team and can see his family whenever he wants. Just has to drive 15-20 minutes to get home

This is what I find somewhat odd. dude who bumped this thread said he wasnt making the best decisions. Which I can totally see. Dude is a flashy OL, IDC, I know most here want no sunshine and for him to live in a cave but he clearly enjoys the limelight. He is a teenager with millions in miami coming from a place like MO. I am sure he has shown out a bit but to me that is vastly different from being homesick like D alluded to.

With his parents being no nonsense people, I could see them thinking he needs to come home to reel him in a bit if he is wildin. Maybe that is homesickness to some but seems like we have different stories.

Not because I disagree with you (although I do). Because you’re failing to acknowledge that the Rivers and Cici were not finished products AT THAT TIME. Cici was ok at best his freshman year. Rivers was a guard playing tackle. You have #10 pick overall Cici in mind. He wasn’t anywhere near that level his first year. Meanwhile McCoy and Samson have seven years of combined experience.

I will be honest I did not realize @dycane specifically said “tackles in front of him” I read over that and thought he was referring to the line as a whole which i STRONGLY disagree with because of the interior bunch we’re trotting out there. I do agree that McCoy and Samson are marginally better than the 2023 tackle group… and that’s only because Francis was green. Rivers is better than both of them as a guard playing tackle.

well D$ said on the pod like 30 seconds ago that there are rumors about Cantwell being homesick, sometimes they are true, sometimes overblown, he said DJ williams was homesick and that was the rumor back on grassy that he missed his dog.

His take was wait and see where we are in January. Said it happens a lot, kids just need to keep working and they will get their chance like Mallory etc. and once they start getting more and more involved it tends to resolve itself. I am paraphrasing but if he is bringing it up obviously something.

(as far as good news he said we are active with a LB trying to add and that there is real smoke of Brysen reclass to 2027)

There's already a Fr starting on the OL, if Cantwell could contribute, they would be playing him, especially with McCoy clearly playing through an injury.

Better than cooper, id put rivers at tackle over samson and mccoy, but i think samson is a better guard currently

Also Cantwell not being versatile enough to play guard isnt a good thing to me

I don't think he is the type of kid who does stupid stuff outside the football facility. From everything I've heard, he's a film junkie and a football nerd. His parents are both Olympians, not some soft/woke parents. I'd be shocked if they wanted him to come home just because he is a little homesick

Samson is definitely a better LT than Rivers was. How is this even a discussion?

One of the biggest reasons Francis started right away is because he legitimately had no one else at tackle. If Francis was coming into a roster with two seniors with playoff experience (Samson and McCoy), he would have started off at guard. Just because Cantwell wasn't suited for guard doesn't mean the staff's opinion of him as a tackle changes. They still view him as a first-round talent. Heck, Francis is adjusting to playing guard. He's been pretty bad the last few games. As a Giants & Canes fan, I've been his biggest supporter. However, he needs to clean things up quickly.....

Francis was good enough as a freshman to make samson or mccoy stay at guard. We threw cantwell at LT the entire spring in hopes that he was good enough to start there. If he was near francis i think he would be playing or at least rotating in

Are we watching samson play? Rivers in 2024 was better at tackle imo. Seems everyone is just assuming with samson and not actually watching him game to game

Francis wouldn't have started over a Senior captain with playoff experience (McCoy). Samson is 100% better than Rivers as a LT, so Francis probably wouldn't have started there either. People seem to forget this, but Francis struggled Freshman year. He only had a 67 overall PFF grade

Every situation and kid is completely unique.

There's certainly a percentage of kids who, if they grew up in Nixa, Missouri, the son of olympic throwers who very likely spent a ton of time molding you into a similar athlete, and then were dropped into the middle of Coral Gables with $2M in your pocket, might have a little fun. Maybe too much, one might say.

You just really don't know. Maybe this is all total bull**** and the kid is happy as **** and doing all the right things. Usually where there's smoke, there's fire, so even if you think there are some flames, maybe he is kinda homesick being away from what he knows for the first time. And maybe he's doing a little of what I described above....you're not in the facility 24 hours a day, and when you're in Miami and have more money than a large percentage of the poeple, even if you do love football and studying and grinding film, it's pretty easy to get caught up in everything Miami has to offer, which is literally NONE of what Nixa, Missouri has to offer.

Nobody really knows. But I just know I'm gonna be annoyed as **** to real all the conspiracy theories from not until Spring. Because nothing of what you've heard about the kid really applies, each person is completely different and unique.
