Wrong. Cantwell was recruited to play tackle. He doesn’t want to play guard and he’s not a good guard. The guys in front of him at tackle are better than Rivers and Cooper during Samson’s freshman year.

Fwiw, I don’t think the poster is trolling or anything from just looking at their post history, etc. I don’t think it means he is for sure gone either. My gif post was moreso referring to the fact that we will now see people bring this up and ask about this every week up until January and I’m already annoyed.

One of the biggest reasons Francis started right away is because he legitimately had no one else at tackle. If Francis was coming into a roster with two seniors with playoff experience (Samson and McCoy), he would have started off at guard. Just because Cantwell wasn't suited for guard doesn't mean the staff's opinion of him as a tackle changes. They still view him as a first-round talent. Heck, Francis is adjusting to playing guard. He's been pretty bad the last few games. As a Giants & Canes fan, I've been his biggest supporter. However, he needs to clean things up quickly.....

Yep it’ll be like how ppl talked about Samson just wayyy louder n Samson is now currently out there anchoring the line for the #1 team in the country..
 
If Mario and Mirabal really really really want Cantwell to be here for the money he is making, then IMO he will be here.

If they have seen him every day for 10 months, and think his ceiling is not as high as they thought, then he may be ushered out.

That's a little harsh.

The LT, LG and RT will play in the NFL. Whether they stick is another matter, obviously.

Being brutally honest, I didn't like the way Cantwell moved when I saw him doing drills in Spring practice. But then again Bell is the starting RT for the Eagles, so size > fluidity.
 
Is someone giving him $2m also if he doesn’t play at all? He has beyond an inside track to start at LT next season lol no clue why he would leave.

Not because I disagree with you (although I do). Because you’re failing to acknowledge that the Rivers and Cici were not finished products AT THAT TIME. Cici was ok at best his freshman year. Rivers was a guard playing tackle. You have #10 pick overall Cici in mind. He wasn’t anywhere near that level his first year. Meanwhile McCoy and Samson have seven years of combined experience.

I will be honest I did not realize @dycane specifically said “tackles in front of him” I read over that and thought he was referring to the line as a whole which i STRONGLY disagree with because of the interior bunch we’re trotting out there. I do agree that McCoy and Samson are marginally better than the 2023 tackle group… and that’s only because Francis was green. Rivers is better than both of them as a guard playing tackle.
 
Let's have some perspective here.

He's the backup LT for the #1 team in the country playing for a national title while being coached by one of the best OL coaches in the country while backing up a potential first rounder who is definitely leaving after this year. While also being paid well.

Where's he going to go with a better situation? The starting spot is his if he performs. If he transfers, it's because he wasn't going to start next year.

His take was wait and see where we are in January. Said it happens a lot, kids just need to keep working and they will get their chance like Mallory etc. and once they start getting more and more involved it tends to resolve itself. I am paraphrasing but if he is bringing it up obviously something.

(as far as good news he said we are active with a LB trying to add and that there is real smoke of Brysen reclass to 2027)
 
These kids are professional athletes now. Cantwell probably got a couple million to sign here. Homesick should not be an issue. Suck it up, buttercup. Make the best of your situation. Enjoy the city, work hard, and be our starting left tackle next year

To me, it's more the fact that he was on his way to Georgia or Oregon and Mario and Mirabal didn't just let it go. They had to have him and we paid what I'm sure is top 5 money on our roster.

Poor investment that wouldn't be made anywhere other than OL because of who the staff is. Any other position and the staff lets them walk and Dennis Smith tweets out "Its a marathon not a sprint"

How good is this team if they did the same thing for any of Dylan Stewart, Colin Simmons, David Stone, Ellis Robinson, etc. 3 years ago?

I'm sure he will be all world dominant next year and I'll get bumped and look like a clown. I hope it happens.

This is common for every single college student during their Freshman year, particularly the kids out of state. You miss the home cooked meals, parents and siblings, hometown friends, etc. It's never talked about enough on here because a lot of players are local. Mark Fletcher probably drives home to see his mom every other day. Malachi Toney has the luxury of having his brother on the team and can see his family whenever he wants. Just has to drive 15-20 minutes to get home


From everything I've heard, Cantwell loves Miami

Don’t forget that Scott, Lightfoot and Blount were in the same DL class as the guys you named. We must have paid a lot for that class.
