I suspect the guys not interested in having the winner of the Memphis vs. Houston game have a clear preference for a choice. And they'd have a problem with their choice losing.
Though I prefer Fuente, I'd take either of them.
And truth be told ... You take the guy who expresses the most interest in the job. The guy who wants the job most, will be the best fit, IMO.
I assume this is a response to me so I will bite.
I am of the group who is not interested in hiring a first time HC at Miami who is simply a **** college coordinator. Before this season, I wouldn't consider Herman as a candidate for the Miami gig at all. Sure he was a **** coordinator who has a really good pedigree under Urban, but I wanted to see what he can do coaching the whole team. Just like Montgomery or Morris, show me what you can do as an HC.
As for Fuente, before the season, I wanted to see two things (1) can he repeat that success of 2014, and (2) how will his team play against a more talented roster (Ole ****). Now that Fuente has beat Ole **** and run 13 straight, I am sold on his qualifications. Today, if we were deciding between the two, I would go Fuente. He has won the conference, won 10 games last season and the bowl and now has run off 13 straight wins at Memphis. Memphis is now ranked
#17 . What more can he do at Memphis?
As for Herman, I think he is doing an incredible job. He has a good win at UL. His teams are putting up 45.6 PPG and winning by 24.3 PPG. That is pretty dominating.
As for Memphis v. Houston (in Houston), I think it will be an interesting game. The game LIKELY will likely decide who is the winner of the west. For Herman, I think the game holds more water. I think his tenure isn't as impressive as Fuente. If Memphis lost to Ole ****, I would then say "focus on the outcome of this game more". I would make this a mini-super bowl....but once Fuente beat Ole ****, he fully qualified himself and that was the cherry on top.
If both teams go on and win 10+ games during the regular season, does that mean that one of them is lesser qualified because they lost? Maybe. But IMO, it is just one game. Their WHOLE tenure is a bigger sample size. I don't dismiss the game, I just don't negate their tenures because of a loss. That goes for either coach losing.
As for the part in
bold, I don't believe either will come chasing after us. I believe we will need to court both and show interest first. I truly believe that the only one who will hold us back from landing EITHER is our BOT/Admin.
