ITT We Follow Potential 2015 Coaching Candidate Week 4

Only watched the 2nd half. Was a good football game. Thought UKs D and O played pretty well. O missed some opportunities and left some pts out there.

When Stoops took over they were 0-8 in the SEC with an average margin of loss by 25.5. Including a 40-0 pounding at home vs Vandy. They are right there, done a good job so far

Really outstanding first half for Fuente as he has Memphis leading Ole Miss, 24-14, at the half. Massive talent disparity between these two teams, yet the Tigers are up by double digits.

Beautifully designed play action vertical shot. Perfect location on the back-shoulder throw from Lynch.

This is a major statement from Fuente. Love that there are multiple young, innovative candidates with coaching prowess as their #1 selling point. That's what we need.

I know Herman is the flashier candidate, with the COY award and national title ring, but Funte is a beast.

Been trying to tell y'all ...

They're both great candidates. We'd be lucky to land either of them.

The concern, though, is that our administration is monumentally stupid. There's a very real chance they don't know either of them exist.

I like both guys. I just think Fuente has the longer tenure as HC, does more with less, and is more likely to leave Memphis. He also has a smaller buyout.

But I agree with you ... Both are awesome candidates.

If we can't figure out how to get 1 of them, I'll have to accept our days of relevance are over.

It isn't debatable who does more with less. clearly it is Fuente. The question is who has the higher ceiling?

if we get a chance to interview Herman, I hope the admin mentions the 30 for 30 since he has included it in his foundation

Fuente is a bad dude. Been on him since last year. We'd be incredibly lucky to have him. He beat a team with twice the talent yesterday, and he's won 13 straight at a program that was something like 5-35 the 4 years before he got there.

This is why you need to act quickly when you are hiring coaches. The longer you wait around the more competition there is and the more choices the coach has.

I love Herman too, but the only question with Herman is that he inherited an incredible QB in Ward. I know Ward's gotten better under Herman, but I watched him a lot last year, and you could see that Ward was going to eventually be awesome.

In the end, we'd be fortunate to have either guy. I'm not going to get into that whole "my guy" thing where I dig my heels in on the guy I was on early (Fuente). There are a lot of guys who would kill here, and Herman and Fuente are two of them.

Our decision makers don't like that Doc.

unfortunately

So would it be smart to say?

Of course it would be smart to say. Herman is using the model of UMiami at Houston. He should be using that model at UMiami. Additionally, I believe some of the BOT members that will actually interview candidates enjoyed the docs. The more academic admin (not just BOT) are the ones that didnt like it as much.

This.

Offer the winner of the Memphis at Houston game, and get the deal done. If we can't, then hire the loser of that game.

One them should be the next HC in Coral Gables.

It is interesting to see how far Fuente took Memphis in such a short amount of time. For a first time HC, not sure why you would want to start there. Before Fuente arrived, Memphis was utter dogchit. I truly am amazed at what he built there in such a short amount of time. I give Fuente a ton of credit for choosing such a chitty program as his starting point too. He has Memphis ranked #17 and he did it with nothing.

In terms of landing a first HC gig, Houston wasn't a bad landing spot. Houston has a decent program. They recruited above average as well. The previous coach, took them to two straight bowl games. Herman clearly raised the bar once he got there. But Herman greatly benefited from having Ward already there.

I think either coach will instantly improve Miami and maximize the output of our current players.

I too would prefer Fuente. Maybe Frenk will have a hard-on for this latin man.
