ITT We Follow Potential 2015 Coaching Candidate Week 4

Justin Fuente - His Memphis Tigers defeated Missouri State 63-7. Next opponent is Kansas

Mark Stoops - His Wildcats defeated Louisiana Lafayete 40-33. Next two opponents will be South Carolina and Florida, it will be a real test for him.

Bob Stitt - After an impressive first game win against NDSU his Grizzlies lost to Cal Poly 20-19. Their next opponent is Liberty.

Tom Herman - His Houston Cougars defeated Tennessee Tech 52-24. Next opponent is Louisville.

Chad Morris - His Mustangs lost to Baylor 56-21. Next opponent is North Texas. I thought they looked good initially but just couldn't keep up with Baylor as the game went on.

Beau Baldwin - His Eastern Washington Eagles lost to Oregon 61-42. Next opponent is UNI. He's been a head coach since 2007 his overall record is 77-28. He's been coach of the year twice I believe and defeated Delaware for DI-AA championship. Has a pretty good resume

Bad list.

Bunch of nobodies and coordinators

Uh, you realize that's what UM will be hiring when Golden gets ****canned right?

Shoot for the stars and you might hit the moon.

Funny that the same beta males who slurp Golden are the ones who aim low for the next coaching hire.

The lowered expectations for this program are a ******* disease, just like the people who carry that mentality. If the fans don't hold the admin's feet to the fire and demand excellence, who will??

FYI - Butch mother****ing Davis. That's what a real list looks like, fool

Oh and by the way, your list is garbage full of nobodies. Aim higher and expect excellence
Lol at the list being garbage. Some well thought of coaches on that list. Who do you want Nick Saban, Urban Meyer? Get the **** out of my thread *****. This is a no ****** zone.

UM should have higher standards

Butch Davis - On my list and the best coach out of the realistic options you've listed
Gary Patterson Third best coach in CFB but he's made a home for himself at TCU. Not very realistic.
Chuck Pagano - Doesn't he have health problems?
Mark Richt - The guy is in a talent rich area with no other schools to compete with and he can't even get to the championship game. Lmao
Bob Stoops Not coming
Chud - Meh - He's on my list
Lane Kiffin - LMAO - Begrudgingly he's on my list but he's garbage.

Etc etc

Jesus Christ. And you think my list is ****. Half those coaches aren't realistic options and the other half is ****. Butch Davis is on my list and of all those coaches that are realistic options he would be the best one.

Outside of Kiffin and Davis, none of those other guys would come to Miami, IMO.

Low expectations, huh?

Low expectations are a DISEASE.

- Ten years ago, 9 wins got a coach fired at Miami. Today, 7 wins gets you a contract extension.

- A decade ago, the expectation was national titles. Five years ago, the bar was to win the ACC. Today, the bar is set at winning the Coastal.

Before they were at Miami:

Lou Saban - Head Coach, Buffalo Bills
Howard Schnellenberger - Head Coach, Baltimore Colts (prev. OC at Miami Dolphins, Super Bowl, undefeated season)
Jimmy Johnson - Head Coach, Oklahoma State (Big 12)
Dennis Erickson - Head Coach, Washington
Butch Davis - Defensive Coordinator, Dallas Cowboys (Super Bowl Champ)

Since then? Lowered expectations.

Larry Coker - College assistant
Randy Shannon - College assistant
Al Golden - LOL

Raise the bar again. I expect national championships, and I expect the University to spend the money it takes to hire a competent staff like they used to do. Don't tell me it can't be done or it isn't realistic. We've done it before.

Chuck pagano is, yano, only coaching for a top 5 NFL team this year. But yeah let's give chuck a call I'm sure he'll come through for an interview!
Gary Patterson has top 5 team & a great contract? He'll be on the first plane to Miami!

You deceptively listed Howard, Saban, JJ, and Ericksons positions as a means to justify your list. First, neither Howard or Lou were employed as head coaches before jumping to Miami (As Chuck is right now). Second, the program's JJ and Dennis (he coached at Washington state not Washington) were inferior to Miami at the time. TCU and UGA (while they don't have a stronger history) are further advanced w/ a better track record the past ten years. Only way bob stoops would come here is if he is fired. He is making 5.25 million a year. LOL @ UM even coming close to offering any candidate that money.

Lane and Chud are realistic candidates. For Chud I'm not sure how I feel about a candidate that has been out of the college grind for 12 years. One can cite Pete Carroll, but I don't believe Chud is as charismatic or strategic as Carroll. I'm not as down on Kiffin as others (considering our bare options), but I prefer other options to him. Unless he has humbled himself, I doubt UM would give him the keys to the Ferrari. The BOT did not like Dan Mullen's personality (which is reasonably according to the rumor mill around him) but Kiffin has a flashy style as well. Different from Mullen, but can rub people the wrong way. I would rank him above Cristobal without a doubt.

Our last three head coaches were two coordinators already on staff and a rising head coach (without a ten win season from the MAC). Get a grip.

NVA Cane has a great, realistic list

Deceptive? I'm spitting out FACTS. Howard WAS an NFL head coach before coaching here. So was Lou Saban. Butch had Super Bowl experience.

Jimmy played in the toughest conference in college football at the time.... comparable to today's SEC. Oklahoma State at that time would be roughly equal to a South Carolina or Texas A&M today... a middle of the pack team in the best conference.

Miami has never had success with a coach whose only previous experience was as a college assistant. Another FACT.

Nice try though.

And where did I say that Pagano would take the job? Maybe there's a 20% chance, but YOU MAKE THAT CALL. Harbaugh went to michigan under similar circumstances, didn't he? So you never know.

What bothers me about NVA list is the low bar set by the fans. Like any negotiation, whatever you ask for, they're gonna give you a little bit less.... or meet you in the middle.

Let's say the fans all got together and took NVA's list to heart and clammored for someone like Justin Fuente. Do you think there's any scenario at all in which the University would then decide to spend MORE money than the fans are asking them to spend and go hire a better, more qualified coach?

**** no. Theyre gonna skate by, spending as little money on the program as we'll ALLOW them to get away with. Fan pressure is the ONLY reason they could possibly have for investing in the football program.

Ask for the stars and you might get the moon, as the saying goes.

I'm not debating what Miami did 35 years ago ... Times have changed.

Pitt was a national power 35 years ago ... Why aren't they, now?

And as for the lowering of expectations for prospective coaches ... I think people allow the results to skew the actual hire from years ago.

Jimmy Johnson was a 29-25-3 at Oklahoma State, with 2 losing seasons in 5 years as a HC. And he never finished higher than 3rd in the Big 8. And the year he was hired by UM, he went 3-4 in the Big 8.

... That's hardly a case of Miami going for the biggest coach available.

Erickson coached at Washington State ... And before that, he coached at Wyoming and Idaho.

And his record at WSU was 12-10-1. And he went 6-6 at Wyoming. Again, that wasn't an elite hire.

And those Butch Davis credentials, pre-hiring, are comical. That's Dave Wannstedt. No, I'm not saying Butch and Dave are the same ... But their credentials when Butch was hired would have been equal.

It's easy to justify something after the fact ... But nobody knows who will be great, until they're great.

Lastly ... It's not about pay! These dudes are already making millions. They're not coming to Miami to make the same money. Patterson, Stoops, and Richt have already built their programs. They're not interested in pressing "reset", IMO.

Pagano and Chud? The only way they are coming to Miami is to replace Philbin. Maybe Chud replaces Lazor, if he gets a HC job and Pep Hamilton remains the OC in Indy.

Haysoos ****** Christo smh. The sad thing is that you think those coaches would actually coach here (minus Butch) or that Miami would have a legit shot with them. The fact that you even put Kiffin on there just goes to show that you just like throwing **** on the wall to see if it sticks. ******* Lane Kiffin smh.

You mean getting fired? When did Chuck Pagano get fired?

Well they're not renewing his contract in Indy.... that's a nicer way of firing somebody.

Butts heads with the GM.

Chad Morris would do some unspeakable things here, but I would rather have a notorious, stingy, hard hitting, bone crushing, QB killing Defense that everyone fears like we had in our heyday.

Pretty well known that he is either in the Super Bowl or they let his contract expire at the end of the year...and as great a defensive mind as he is, Grigson has built a **** defense there. Very little faith that is a Super Bowl team. You can bet Irsay won't hesitate for a second to back up the truck and get his guy Arians back, putting Pagano on the market.

All I keep hearing is "can't do this, can't do that, it's impossible, blah blah."

Get some confidence, man. Yes, we can hire an established coach and we don't need to resort to hiring a college coordinator.

And there's absolutely no reason not to aim high.

Miami was great once, it can be great again. Keep your chin up.
