We'd be lucky to get this guy

James coley was named the next head coach at the U? assuming that Golden and Dorito leave for Penn State. I think he could save a fair amount of our recruiting class.

Thread is a total waste of time.
He's not coming in any way shape or form.
I wish folks would drop it already.

You're the one person I'd like to hear from re: a list of candidates. If you're unwilling to post, please send me a PM. Over the last 15 years, you've rocked all of these.

There are two rules that all Miami fans at this point should understand about what works and what doesn't. If the UM followed these rules the program would be back soon enough. It's really simple actually:

Rule 1: The Championship NFL coordinator who failed as an NFL HC. Schnelly, Pete Carroll, Butch Davis. Find a guy who has a legit NFL resume of excellence in coaching (development and x-os), who didn't get the job done as HC, but has the charisma to connect to kids, with a background that you KNOW he can actually coach football and not just recruit.

Rule 2: Find a HC at a lower tier BCS conference school who is doing above average to solid to good, who was a coordinator under an elite collegiate coach. Guys who fit this mold (even if totally unavailable, but just to show you what I mean) would be Mark Dantonio (DC under Tressel, great job at a lesser BCS program), Charlie Strong (DC under Meyer, obv doing a great job at Louisville), Kevin Sumlin (obviously we missed the boat on him, but he was an OC under Stoops and then did a great job at Houston, when we should have hired him then), Steve Sarkisian (obviously missed the boat, not our fault, bad timing. was an OC under Carroll and did a solid job at UW).

Scour the country for guys who fit in either of those molds, and hire the one you feel is the best fit. If we had followed this method, Coker, Shannon AND Al Golden all would have been eliminated. Never hire college coordinators. Never hire non-BCS coaches who never coordinated in the NFL. Never hire NFL coaches who aren't players coaches. Stay within the rules and we WILL get the right coach.

If you all have learned nothing else from previous coaching searches at Miami it is that they will never hire the big name expensive HC or the HC that all the fans are clamoring for. So cross Strong, Franklin, Narduzzi, Chud, Butch, Schiano, Patterson, Orgeron, Mario and all the others on your wish list off. It will be just like when we hired Al, he was a finalist with Trestman and Edsall. They never hire who the hot name is or who people think, it will be out of left field

The people that want Golden gone are in for a rude awakening when they see the underwhelming names for potential candidates. Won't be an A-lister in the group.

Have I just missed all your posts lately or have you been in a drunken stupor since LVille?

Yep. Our only hope might be if they find an up and comer from the 1-AA ranks.

If Golden goes he should be at the top of the list.

He has coached at Vandy and succeeded. Vandy has high academic standards, so he is used to being at a school where academics are highly emphasized. He isn't a South Florida guy, but he is an East Coast guy.

And most of all he coaches with a chip on his shoulder and is very fiery. I'd take him in a heartbeat.

Not according to the 30 year history of what you can be confident works at the U.

Guy has done a great job at Vandy. That shows he can recruit and manage. Al Golden could recruit and manage. But neither of them had ever coordinated either on the NFL level OR under an elite college coach at an elite school. Might as well just match PSU and keep Golden, as they are the same guy.

If Golden leaves, Petrino is the slam dunk hire.

He's a top-tier coach who's only available for non-football reasons. No doubt Blake James would reach out to him.

He'd have our offense committing acts of savagery, and he'd turn the defense over to someone competent.

Let's just hope Shalala signs off on it.

He is a Pennsylvania guy: next! **** the academic part... We need a winner.
