It's Time to Quit Playing the ACC Championship in Charlotte

We probably had 30k to Clemsons 45k last year. Last night Pitt brought maybe 5k. I was sitting on the Pitt side sideline and we had only 2 Pitt fans in my entire section.

I had 4 tickets I bought from the ACC and struggled to sell them, ended up selling 2 to a Clemson fan and 2 to a Pittsburgh fan.

The ACC isn't moving the game just because a few fans from a team that has basically been irrelevant in the conference for 18 years doesn't like the weather. The ACC could give a sh*t about Miami fan's opinion. Some of y'all still think we can move like it the 80's or 90's, like we still move the needle in CFB or something. New flash, we don't. We barely move the needle in our own state or recruiting area.

The ACC will gladly take the poor weather in exchange for better attendance and more ticket sells. Look at the Pac-12 championship game, pitiful, the Pac 12 CG is empty with poor ticket sells in a nice location. You can bet they will move to something that can draw more fans and raise the ticket sell.
I'm not talking about moving the game from the viewpoint of being a Canes fan. As a college football fan, which looked the least like a college football championship game - SEC, ACC, Big 10, or Big 12? You do have a point about the Pac 12 game. I don't know where they should play that game. Santa Clara is pretty much smack in the middle of the PAC 12 geographic area, is a state of the art stadium, and typically has good weather. Maybe move it back to playing at the home stadium of the team with a better record.

Regarding the ACC game, if there was bad weather once in a while, then no big deal, but this is becoming a yearly occurrence. As far as attendance is concerned, just wait until Clemson is not a participant. Do you remember how empty that stadium was prior to Clemson's resurgence?

All Carolina Conference.

You really think they’d move it to Florida?

It should be, but it will not. They’ll keep it in the Carolinas for as long as they can.

One thing that would help the PAC championship game is moving it to Saturday instead of playing it on a Friday.

Don't forget how empty it was when the game was played in Jacksonville, Tampa and Orlando. The ACC never wants a Pitt, BC, Duke or Cuse in that game. They just don't bring enough fans. Game wouldve sold out again this year if we took care of our business.

Based on track record, Duke has an equal chance of making it to the ACCCG as Miami. It's reasonable to keep the game in NC.

This is why they are keeping it in Charlotte.

"The Dr Pepper ACC Football Championship Game has sold out at Bank of America Stadium four of the previous seven games, including last year’s matchup in which 74,372 watched No. 1 Clemson defeat No. 7 Miami, 38-3. The seven previous ACC Football Championship Games in Charlotte have averaged more than 70,000 fans per game. The game’s attendance record is 74,514 for the 2015 contest between Clemson and North Carolina, which also set an attendance record for Bank of America Stadium. Over the last eight years, the ACC ranks second among all conferences in attendance at its football championship games.

I admit that I liked the idea of playing the ACC Championship in Charlotte because it was pretty centrally located as far as the rest of the ACC, but ***** it. The weather is usually cold or wet (like tonight). Either play the game on Friday night in Atlanta or bring it to Orlando or Tampa.

I’m all in for Orlando as I just moved here Two weeks ago! Tampa is only an hour away so there would be good too.

They may consider a move if Miami and FSwho ever got their chit together and started playing the CG on a frequent basis. As long as Clemson is dominating, no move will be considered. Or....if NC brought back the Bathroom law, they would probably move it then. :)

The reason why the NFL always schedules the superbowl in warm climate stadiums or domes is because bad weather football sucks. I don't give a crap about watching players slip and fall in snow all game long.

As for attendance, the fact that it's a defacto Clemson home game is what sells tickets. Imagine if it was Louisville or FSU vs Pitt. That place would be empty.

As long as Clemson is running the conference, it stays in Charlotte.

I’d love Atlanta as well. Only realistic possibility would be if the SECCG rotated between Atlanta and New Orleans every other year. The SEC West schools would probably need to complain about them always having to travel Far East. The problem is the Alabama (and Auburn some) are the teams usually going from the west and they are close to Atlanta. Need LSU and A&M to start getting there a lot and complain. If that did happen, ACC could take every other year in Atlanta (when SEC is in New Orleans). Then to some other location (Tampa, Orlando, Jax, or Charlotte) the other years.
Probably won’t happen though as SEC seems locked in Atlanta.

Jax would be a great location, it’s a shame they did so poorly in the first couple games because it would really be a great site. Agree it doesn’t appear SEC will leave Atlanta. A domed stadium would be ideal to make it neutral, but Jax would be the next best option that the N.C. schools might actually buy off on.

I got a kick out of those that were still making serious replies even after dude said the location was locked in until 2030.
Contracts are made to be broken. Remember the game was moved for a year when North Carolina had that law issue.
