It's Time To Get That Stadium Done

Take your orange and green glasses off. The stadium is 1,000 x's better with aqua seats. Plus, the renovations is all Ross. The man could've said F it but he chose to modernize the 30 year old stadium.

I have always hated Joe Robbie Stadium/Pro Player Park/Pro Player Stadium/Dolphins Stadium/Dolphin Stadium/Land Shark Stadium/Dolphin Stadium again/Sun Life Stadium until this year. The renovations have made it a much better place. The stands being closer to the field helps, the Aqua seats are a lot better than the old faded Orange seats, and the cover next year will be even better. I think the stadium issue is somewhat overblown to. I still miss the Orange Bowl though :(

#HireButchDavis

the fact that ross installed aqua seats is him thumbing his nose at our program. he wants our rent money, but doesn't give a **** about us otherwise. he could've put in new orange seats to keep the stadium looking somewhat like we belong there, but now it's even more obvious that we're just another check to him.

Our own place at Tropical Park is obviously the best possibility. But personally, I think the stadium renovations are gonna make the current situation much more tenable. The capacity for UM games next year is going to be down to ~55k (13k less than this year, 20k less than last year), because they say they will not be selling tickets in the upper endzones. The rendering below, in my opinion, looks nice. If they tarp it off like this picture, it will look pretty cool. 55k is a decent size for us if we're back to being a competitive, winning program.

Didn't mean to down vote, tropical park is definitely the best possibility.

Look what Baylor did for their school. Baylor is roughly the same sized school (16000 enrollment), small, private. They opened up a new 45,000 seat stadium that expands to 55,000 if they need it. I think it cost $230 mm? Surely something like that is possible for us

construction costs in waco are way lower than miami. that kind of project would be $350 million+ easily for us.

It starts with a plan.

A 400 million dollar stadium in Tropical Park pays for itself.

Exactly, especially if were a competitive program. Place will sell out every game because that area itself is highly populated.

I think this issue is way overblown. The revamped sunlife is fine. They addressed the size by reducing the upper deck capacity substantially. The total attendance number is now going to be 65k. That's perfect. If we're good and we have 45k showing up to watch us play Pitt, it won't look like a desert out there. If we play fsu or another good team 65k gives us a nice upper limit to still have a decently big and loud crowd. You add on the roof and the noise level is going to be bananas in big games helping our home field advantage.

**** the national media. As others have pointed out, they always bash us for one thing or another. The tailgating sucked at the orange bowl. The orange bowl held 80k so it was often empty as well. Those things didn't impede us from winning. Times have changed you say? Recruits won't want to come here. Bullsh!t. Despite sucking ****, Al Golden's average class ranking was in the mid teens. That's with us playing in the old sun life and with Al being Al. The only thing this program needs right now is a coach who can coach his nuts off. Everything else will take care of itself.

I went to the Va Tech game recently. I hadnt been to a game in over 20 years. I was surprised how nice the stadium was and how we had a good group of fans there. The problem is the same as the problem is out here for UCLA; the crowd looks much smaller due to the stadium. Also, why is it so important to have an on campus stadium? I mean UM has like 8,000 undergrad students. Is an extra 8,000 people in the stadium really gonna make that much of a difference?

I don't give a **** where we play I'm just ready to win

The ACC wants to expand by adding at least ND. So do you want them coming to Miami potential beating us then negatively recruiting against us by saying how their game day environment is so much better while offering a better education?

Give me Dalvin Cook, a good coach, and a few defensive lineman and No Life stadium would be packed and fine

It will make no difference

To the next idiot that brings up "Coral Gables won't allow a stadium"

NEWSFLASH: UM is right on the very frigging border of Coral Gables, across 57th Avenue (which is NOT Coral Gables) there is another city called South Miami that may be more accommodating.

There is a several block warehouse area there, right along the Metrorail, which would be ideal for a stadium.

Ah have you seen the news about people damaging the job to sway recruits and potential coaches?

Really? Because run down warehouses and tow yards are such an income stream?

Build it without parking, and force people to park in Dadeland/South Miami and other parking garages.

Why? Are you planning to fly in the crowd on choppers?

Or planning to build a 6 lane highway right through CG and Kendall?

Metrorail Parking - Miami-Dade County

And also do Park & Ride buses from other areas, including Tropical Park.

You can, of course, add a few parking garages around the stadium, but only enough for 1-3k cars, which is about 5-10k people.

For reference:

Metrorail Parking spaces:

Dadeland South: 1,254

Dadeland North: 1,963

South Miami: 1,774

The beauty of the stadium being built literally next to a Metrorail station is that dispersion is a lot easier.

The stadium is easily the biggest problem with the program. That was true a week ago when Al Golden was still coach, and it will be true a few years from now if we force the next coach out after a disappointing tenure.

The Orange Bowl had spice. That area. Heart of a great city. It may not have been on campus but you didn't feel like you were forfeiting anything in regard to game day atmosphere. Heck, the rocking metal stands, tight proximity, and obvious influence on the flustered opponent were a treasure, a delight, as good or better than any on campus activity. Certainly more memorable.

Now I drive 45 minutes to a glorified La Quinta lobby. That's what the touted club level reminds me of. The weekly dilemma is whether to take the turnpike and glimpse at Calder, or the Palmetto and glimpse at Walmart. I always imagine the bus load of the opposing team laughing like **** while driving to that area, in the middle of nowhere. So intimidating.

But now we have patched seats, and trestles resting in the grass, waiting for next year and that roof. Just what we need. Salvation. The argument against Sun Life Stadium has always been that it lacks a roof. Everything else is magnificent. Particularly for a college program way out in the distance. Sometimes from that stadium I look at the Ft. Lauderdale skyline and try to detect a reflection of the University of Miami campus.

I'm encouraged by some of the posts in this thread. Every time this topic surfaces on Canes sites it is mocked and deflected. Impossible. Not needed. I refuse to believe it. We can't be that stupid for 25 years. I rooted like heck for the Beckham attachment to work. He's not a dullard like Stephen Ross. The situation would have worked out far better than any projection, via astute adjustments from Beckham and his camp. Hard to believe somebody in this threat actually touted Ross for the patchwork. He stuck this community with another 30 years of dullard football in a worthless location. Only world class idiots prioritize something like access roads and compromise location. I wanted that stadium to rest in rubble, as it deserves.

Meanwhile, Tropical Park moves on without us. I live not far away and attend many high school games there. This season the football stadium features a new artificial turf field, improved lighting, and a new track around the field for local meets. The city is devoting resources for actual users of that property, which is packed every night with locals and their games of choice.

Real Question,

If i recall correctly, the U made the city of miami over a billion dollars. Have we ever proposed a partnership with the city for a stadium in which the revenue would be split? Also, have we ever set up a fund for the stadium? i know we got mad love for the health center, so i can't possibly see how we wouldn't get mad love for a stadium that would generate buzz and revenue for the school.

parking itself is not the problem. it's the traffic.

also metrorail? are you going to haul your grill, cooler, tent, and whatever else you tailgate with to the stadium on the metrorail? you have no idea what you're talking about, but call people idiots for saying it can't be done where you're proposing. unless we come up with the money to buy up all of that land, build a highway, and then stick a stadium on it, it can't happen.

The stadium is worse after the reno...the aqua seats stick out like a sore thumb for Canes games. Now the teams have to cross each other coming out of the tunnel. The luxury seats waste 1/4 of the lower deck. The overpriced club level is now bigger in addition to the empty luxury seats. The angle is more shallow and harder to see. The stadium is not really closer to the field. The viewing angles still suck. And above all else, now they won't knock down that **** hybrid stadium for 30 more years!

stupidest thing i've read regarding a new stadium yet. yeah, let's build this stadium to have a solid college gameday atmosphere and take tailgating out of the equation.

I understand where you are coming from, but you'll have to make concessions in order to get what we want. Do we want a place to tailgate and grill hot dogs, or a place for the Miami Hurricanes to play football?

We aren't a typical college team, in a typical college town with acres and acres of land. We play in a city, and one without much (cheap!) land. Therefore, in order to get a stadium, you'll have to give up a bit of the tailgating that you prefer.

What is more important? A hot dog, or a stadium?
