The devil you know is most-often better than the devil you don't know.
Miami needs to get Van Dyke out of his heads and to get the yips behind him.
Starting Williams requires a Tecmo Bowl-like playbook for the true freshman and that won't bode well in Tallahassee.... nor can you start a third-string Brown who can't hit the broad side of a barn with his aerial attack.
You go with Van Dyke, you coach him up this week and if he falters, you got to Williams—while you have a few packages designed to capitalize on Brown's wheels.
The problems with that are:
1) If TVD has 3 INTs + a fumble, it will get ugly fast & we will get boatraced something like 55-10
2) We’re not scoring nearly enough to overcome that many mistakes (only 6 pts against NC ST)
3) If TVD starts & throws a couple INTs, it will turn into a feeding frenzy (which is an even worse spot to throw your backup QB into)
Play clean, mistake-free football & surround Emory & Jacurri (couple of series) with our most explosive players (Brashard & CJ) and we will have a chance. I’m confident our D will bring it but we cannot be putting them in bad spot’s repeatedly (short fields etc due to Turnovers).
TVD was seeing ghosts against NC State. Could be 10x worse against FSU.
