Ive seen 40 years plus of CFB. I was in the stands during the Saben years.

Lou Saben.

So, as the Farmers insurance commercial goes, " I've seen a lot".

This Saturday was supposed to be a rewarding night for us. Game on TV, an EASY frickin' opponent, good weather, make a BBQ, have a celebratory cigar mid- game, no stress. etc....

Then, the horror show started, all the bad signs were there, and , sadly, by mid second period the inevitable result was set in motion.

The UVA game smacked me in the face more than most losses because it demolished the illusion I had sold myself that we were " this close" to elite again, that we were on the right( no pun ever intended) path , that we were " back". I actually was enjoying this season.
Top 25 programs ( remember when we all used " top 5" or " top 10" by default?) don't lose to Pitt last year like we did or THIS game. UVA is a mess on offense. That QB wouldn't start on St Thomas Aquinas.

A HC has to TRY to fail here. He has to work at NOT succeeding wildly!

Best recruiting base in the nation.
Weak *** division so you are in the Conf Championship game very year.
Home stadium has gone from a negative to a big positive.
Great tradition.
One of the top 2-3 recognizable and iconic " brands" in CFB.

I literally sat there on my couch Saturday and realized that I was wrong when I felt exuberant at the Richt hire. That we were " better" off than with Golden but that there are deep deep flaws in how Richt is setting about to get us to the top of the hill.

We are not elite. We are not a top 25 team or program. Richt is not going to do one SINGLE thing such as are being discussed on this site ( hire an OC, fire coach X ,etc)...

Man, how can 4 coaches in a row ***** this thing up so badly going on 15-16 years?? My God, its NOT that hard!!!

Getting to elite in college football IS that hard, especially in this era. Talk to Michigan fans about how Harbaugh was going to come in and dominate with his NFL pedigree. And Harbaugh could coach circles around Richt. Guys like Saban and Urb make it look simple because they are really really really good. The best 5* South Florida players aren't coming here (with very few exceptions), and haven't been for a long time. They are going to the elite programs. Richt is a 9 win guy. Don't hold your breath for a return to 2001. We're not remotely close, and won't be until we strike gold with another Jimmy Johnson diamond in the rough.

You are correct here. Only Butch Davis can save us now.

Pride and arrogance killed us for most of those years! Coaches that won't do the obvious thing to improve the team because of some unfounded loyalty! You and I can probably do a better job coaching this offense than what we have witness so far. I'm just tired of the complete ineptness of the direction of the program that seemed at the verge of greatness to only disappoint us time and time again!

Why can't things that seem so simple to fix just don't get fixed? With Golden all he had to do is fire his friend and he would probably still be here. Now the defense is fixed but now it's the same that could be said about the offense. Fix the play calling is all that's needed. Simple fix that would save a lot of heartache. But arrogance and pride continue to fester!

How come any other coaches in CFB can't do it? There's literally 4 of them that have a ship and half of those guys it took 6-7 years and much, much more financial commitment that our school has shown.

As bad as that loss was i think people should put down the phone and unplug. We we'ren't close to begin the year despite what some booty goons will tell you. Yes this loss hurts and it sucks. People fooled themselves into believing we were something we weren't, you know cause it's year 3 and Saban and Urban were able to do it in year three. Fuggin idiots hahaha.

We're a top 20-25 team probably and we will drop games. We'll be a perenially 9 to 10 win team with the occasional shot at the CFP. If things come together and we strike magic again we can be more.

It's much, much, much, much harder than you think and much harder than you're making it out to be.

It takes a ton of things, none bigger than a LOT of money, which Miami does not have.

Not saying anything about the UVA game is excusable. It's not. At all. But winning a NC is harder than it's ever been and will only get more and more difficult.

Because 90 percent of Div 1 HCs are arrogant- know it alls, surrounded by yes men, happy to keep their own $100K+ jobs.

Keeps the gravy train rolling... and if you happened to be related to them... the better.

It. Will. Never. Make. Sense. How. Miami. Suck.

But How does one fail at Miami?

This state is LOADED with talent and yet, in our case, we can not find a HC with enough football common sense to make the proper changes or adjustments to win here especially when it RIGHT. IN. THEIR. FACE.

Some will say bags and bags are true, but there is still enough talent to win in this sh*t stain we call a power 5 division (coastal) and yet we continue to hire brain dead coaches who REFUSES to make changes at important position. We';re not talking about the LB coach, or hiring a ST coach, we're talking about coordinators, scheme, etc.

After Richt I want a CEO HC. I mean a HC who could care less about what our offensive or defensive scheme are. Just get the best coordinators out there. With Golden he wanted to run his shetty scheme on defense and now Richt wants to run this shetty offense.

If you listen or read and comprehend the OP's post then would see his point! We'er in the hotbed of recruiting! #1 area!! No other program has what we have here as far as athletes in their back yard! IPF now up and running, packed stadium that has become one of the loudest in CFB! #1 DF in CFB and a sound team with no cloud over the program finally! So what is keeping us from getting to greatness?? Arrogance and pride is standing in the way of making the right decisions to meet greatness!

normally you build to greatness right? If you go back and read my reply you will comprehend by it will take us longer than 3 years to approach greatness.
Our top 5-8 kids are bought and offered things we won't do or can't do. That's not a recruiting advantage. Any advantage we had in days of yester year went out the window with the interwebz. We have no loyalty from locals. I would argue that USC/Texas/UGA all have it better than we do when it comes to recruiting hotbeds and local talent.

I was on record as predicting a win for the UVA game. I figured we would get a FSU confidence bounce and cruise to a workmanlike victory, something like 24-13. However, I did think we would have at least one of these baffling losses, I just thought it would come against BC, VT, or GT. Obviously, unless something gets figured out, those could all be losses.

Disagree. I think that is something someone says when they are trying to rationalize why we aren't succeeding when we should. That's like those In-Cel (involuntary celibate) dudes who go around angry that they can't get laid, claiming it's because women are so materialistic and only want rich guys who drive fancy cars and have six pack abs. Nawww, they can't get laid because they don't have game.

When you are sitting in the most fertile recruiting grounds in the country, there is plenty of talent leftover even when the Bamas and UGAs pluck some of the best (which an elite recruiter doesn't necessarily lose). One of best stadiums, IPF, name recognition, S FL HS football, everything is in place to become a national title contender again (which we could have been if Richt hadn't blown the game against Pitt last year). All that's missing is a coach who puts his ego aside and hires someone better at running an offense. There is an OC right now in college football who is making less than $500k per year who would instantaneously turn Miami into a playoff team next year even if you don't change anything else. Who? Kendal Briles. He is sitting in the scrap heap right now because of his last name and the Baylor situation. If Briles is the OC, Miami moonwalks into the playoffs in 2019.

You're responding with Kendal Briles to a dude who made a thread just yesterday titled "Kendal Briles Kendal Briles Kendal Briles" lol.

Trust me, I get it.

Looked more like the HC and the offense were the ones not ready

U2Cane, man i have been thinking the exact thing you typed for a long long time. I played cfb and have a coaching degree but never coached, but if i was a damm good college coach i would want to be at Miami, and Texas would be my #2. The same reasons you listed, buttloads of talent, sorry *** conference, i know its not as easy as just that but still, and i think i could sell the **** outta Miami. Most 18 yr old guys have never seen anything like Miami, never cold, badass beaches, clubs, and yes women, women walking half naked everywhere for miles down the beach, if i had taken a visit to Miami as a HS senior it would have blown my mind and i would signed on the spot lol and there's tons more to sell in the football arena. This is just my opinion but i really believe the admin dont want to get back to the top that bad because they know what comes with that success, they have seen it before. Therefore you make the safe hire, Mork Rick, he will win 8-9 games and run a clean program which is what they want, i woulda hired Butch for half the money but thats me. I also want to add Miami is not for everyone and i get that, you need someone who will thrive in that invironment, its just different than anywhere else. Rick looks like an old wore out goat on the sidelines, no fire, ho hum attitude, we'll get em next time, that wont fly here. It has to be the right fit, Rick is not a fit here, a good fit would be Kiffen, young, aggressive, ****y, and seems like he has settled down alot. Peterson would not fit here, not sure Patterson would either at his age now, maybe 10 years ago, Jimmy recommended him back then. But yea, how can Miami not win, who on our sked has more talent other than Clem, we got punked by a team with way lesser talent saturday, thats just plain sad. I sure wanted to see if Butch could repeat, who knows, but i would damm near garantee Rick will not win the ACC

SEC built up to much momentum while we were down, dont know if we can get back to that level bama is playing at. It will take a savage coach to do it

We’re talking about getting ***** slapped by uva and Pitt. If we need the best 5 stars in so fla to beat them, might as well shut the program down.
