It's an opportunity, but first...

Richt clearing himself out helps. It's the best news all year, I think. But, it doesn't solve the root cause of our troubles.

This is an opportunity to be calm in the face what some may consider chaos and make a real decision on the leadership of the athletic program and how decisions get made. This program has been gifting territory and wins to other programs because, for 15 years, it has continuously forgotten its roots:

Being bold and at the cutting edge of college football (in whatever way), which is the ultimate match for our recruiting base.

I say this every single time we go through a hiring opportunity. And, so far, each time we've either reacted to our current situation or gone with perceived safety. It happens because of how the decisions have gotten made. And, before we do anything, we need to retire that failed pattern.

100% agree

Nailed it. @canesallaccess please read the above daily as your first act the moment you awake. Same goes for BOT, President Frenk, etc.

I don't yet know who my options are, but I know I'd stay the F* away from the big, common, easy names. I'd even hire an interim over making any decision that doesn't bring us back to our roots. I don't care if it means losing a recruiting class, season or whatever. Don't make a "safe" move. Get the **** out of this pattern. We've been given a clean slate.
This.

Well Lu, they screwed this up again. Should we be surprised?

To be fair, it had been hinted at me this was the move when I wrote this post. And, I naturally got a little concerned with the process and the decision-makers. D$ and some others can vouch via my text message(s).

I'm on record as thinking Manny was a solid coordinator, a smart guy and someone I think would make a better HC than he was a coordinator. I just wish he had proven it somewhere else. I think this is the type of rushed decision that makes the hiring more of a risk than it needed to be. Now we have to get lucky it works out. Who knows.

I like Manny, really do. Listen to his interviews and he sounded like head coach. I dont liek Manny at miami unproven right now. We had chance to really get a mulligan and we didnt even interview anyone else. This guy hasnt even developed a program yet, fml

My biggest issue with this is the lack of time spent evaluating and reaching out to others - it does feel rushed. Rushed feels like settling. Settling sucks and never ends well.

Right behind that is my concern on previous hires by Manny for his staff.....and the recruiting.

Right. I made the post for a reason. Ha. Again, maybe it all works out beautifully? But, anyone saying it's not a big roll of the dice is being unrealistic.

The scariest part to me in this rushed decision is...will Coach Diaz be willing to clean house on the offensive staff? Doesn't the way this all went down just make Diaz's job a lot more difficult? From perception. To actual operations.

Our program continues to try to hit a runner runner flush, and that's the part I don't understand from the decision makers.

There are and I've seen countless business examples where people make the bolder decision because the perceived "safe" decision is actually a losing bet. That's where we are. The pattern is clear.

This thread isn't even about discussing innovative candidates yet. It's about process. It's about how to even get there. And, how the decision gets made. Let's change that first.

Sigh.

I do this it does make Diaz's job more difficult.

In another thread, i posted this - Temple was the perfect opportunity for Manny to break all ties and do it his way, tinker with things to see what he needed to succeed. Locking him here, i fear he will keep a lot in tact and not change much, which i fear will not change much on the field either (or locker room that sounds like a mess).

I think Manny can be an A+ coach. He comes from a family of leaders. He understands politics and how to build. He is a risk taker and willing to give his assistants a chance to succeed. With that being said he could be a complete bust. It makes me sick that we hired him without even an interview or call to any other options. What a lost opportunity. Regardless of the outcome in 4 years this hire at this time was a mistake. We needed a fresh start.
