There isn’t just one thing we can point to.
There are multiple.
Some are saying it was Malik. I agree. But it wasn’t just him. Others are saying it was the Refs. I agree but it wasn’t just that. Some are saying it was the DBs. I agree there too. At times I agree Richts calls weren’t great, but had we kept rolling after going up 14-3 like we were supposed to, would we really be saying it was all on him? Yes coaches are to blame here, so is the D who got no pressure AND couldn’t defend simple slants. So is Malik who turned the ball over at the worst possible moments twice. So are the refs who missed the most blatant holding call all year and that would have pushed them out of even FG range so now we go into the half down 3 and not 10! HUGE DIFFERENCE.
Last night wasn’t about just one thing. It was multiple. I still think Malik’s 2 INTS we’re by far the worst. Idc what the play call was you DOnt throw those 2 INTS, and because of how they shifted momentum TWICE I am most upset with him.
Richts play calling deserves some heat but it wasn’t why we lost. To me it wasn’t too 3 reasons. Again, we were rolling and on our way to scoring. He wasn’t coming off the gas and then the INTS. The biggest issue I remember was when were in wildcat late in the game. Deejay got a first down off the first play. On 1st and 10 he goes nowhere. 2 and 10 and I was like alright he has to throw from it here and keep them honest but he ran. Richt has to call a throw there. But he ran for nothing so now we are in 3 and 10 and like dfagundo said we just aren’t a third and 10 offense.
The secondary to me was abysmal. It looked like they were facing Antonio brown in number 4 and he was getting what he wanted when he wanted it. We’ve seen sooooo many better receivers this year and these guys made the secondary look the most foolish! HOW???????
And then there is Badgely. I’ve never liked that kid. Not once. That smug look. He’s the Kaaya of kickers. It irks me that he now has the record and it’s only because he was fortunate to kick for 4 years. Hopefully Baxa takes that and isn’t disappointing.
Again, last night wasn’t black and white on who to blame. A lot of factors. It sucks. We did show up but we also beat ourselves. You can’t do that against top 10 teams and we learned that the hard way. It’s crazy to not be optimistic about the future though. It really is. We got monsters coming in. The right QB takes this team far.
