It’s December 1st..

It has nothing to do with what I want. It’s the fact that Miami is playing this Busch league as usual like they are complete amateurs. Catering to peoples sensibilities in a cut throat business as if Mario might not come if we fire Diaz on our own terms. and that timing might interfere with the pac 12 championship game and the media might ask him about the opening when he has 2-3 press conferences a week and does this for a living. Either that or Diaz staying is their plan B, and they have zero appetite for a risky coaching search outside of the obvious Miami alum
You’d mess up this deal if you were running it, honestly. You don’t know where to pick your fights if you think saving $2M and keeping the press off Mario’s current players before the PAC 12 Championship - for a few more days - is where you should stand your ground. If we end up with Diaz, that’s a different failure and issue.

You’re assuming Mario would be ****ed if Miami fires its coach on its own terms without taking into account his feelings, or that he would be ****ed by having to answer a few media questions. He’s a man, he’s 50…. This is also the same guy who left Miami high and dry for bama after 6 weeks. I’m sure he took everyone’s feelings into account when he made that move…or maybe career moves aren’t as dramatic as you make them out to be
Well, I'd agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

Agreed, but...

Lane hasn't signed a long-term extension because Mississippi state laws prevent state employee contracts longer than four (4) years. Kiffin signed a four-year deal when he left FAU, and was adjusted/extended after Year 1. A revised four-year deal. Best Ole Miss could do is repeat the process and adjust/extend his current contact for one additional season. They could pay him whatever they want per year, as far as I know, but they cannot offer him a 10yr/$80-100M type deal like we've seen for Tucker, Riley, and Kelly.

From an article regarding his original contract signing at Ole Miss:

As is the maximum length deal allowed by Mississippi law, Kiffin receives a four-year, $16.2 million base salary with the university.

Regarding Mario...if he loses the PAC12CG would he leave Oregon before their bowl game? If he wins, would be leave before the Rose Bowl?
I think so.

You're assuming UM hasn't already had back channel communications with Cristobal (during which he would have communicated his preferences). Even for a shotty outfit like UM's athletic department, that's a brazen assumption to make. They've been talking since before Manny was even hired in the first place.

If it is Mario, we should know just before the game on Friday.
I am assuming he will let the players know if it is their last game with him as their coach....

No I’m not making that assumption. We’ve been having back channel communications about Mario replacing manny before manny was hired? That makes zero sense

That $2m is nothing but rumor. And I just find it ironic how much our admin supposedly cares about the Oregon on field product this season while Miami continues to be a **** show, going on almost 20 years. And if the deal is messed up and Mario would take his ball and go home because he would prefer not to answer questions about an opening he is supposedly going to take, that is the weakest thing I’ve ever heard in a multi million dollar coaching profession

The timeline's importance is a made up thing just like the Dec. 1st date's importance is a made up thing. Miami put out through the media that an AD would determine Manny's fate. So until that AD gets hired nothing will happen if we take them at their word. Mario's game doesn't matter. Clearly Manny hosting OV's this weekend doesn't matter. Talk about disrespect. The whole weekend that remaining staff will have to answer questions about their job status from recruits and their parents.

Exactly, it’s dumb to talk about courtesy and respect for another schools coach when you’re putting your own coaches in the same position

What would be dumb would be for anyone to follow either of your advices in negotiating a situation like this. You’d really show him who’s boss. Lol

You’re right…they should keep doing things the Miami way. Their record is impeccable and a model of success for big time football programs everywhere

This. lol at Mario being ****ed in any way with how UM fires manny. I'm sure Mario gives two liquid ***** about how Manny gets sh1tcanned

For any veterans to Canes fandom, I believe this would make roughly the 10th time during coaching searches that we've had a fake rumor made up about a random date and a coach's buyout.

I still remember something like this re Shannon and Patterson back in the day.

Do you even know who is doing the negotiating? Which faction of Miami is talking to Cristobal that such a deal is just waiting to be finalized? Is it the group that got outmaneuvered by Epstein? Or one that let Blake James hire Diaz in the first place?

Even if Mario is waiting to sign as soon as the clock hits zero tomorrow, Diaz still having a job is about what Miami has said the process will be unless they're lying. The new AD will evaluate and in this case fire Diaz. They're not waiting to protect Mario.

Good luck telling a highly demanded guy how you’re not going to honor his request on an announcement being held off a week as you’re on your knees begging him to sign your contract.

Who. Do. You. Here’s. Peoples. Thinks. Has. The. Leverage?
