Issiah Walker update…

Who gives a ****e? There are also plenty of athletes who "play hurt". Doesn't mean it's the smartest decision and/or that it won't result in further injury.
Because she took a spot from another deserving gymnast when she competed and then withdrew! If she wasn't mentally ready, which is perfectly understandable, then let another deserving girl compete. She didn't withdraw until she bombed and then was miraculously in the right frame of mind less than a week later.

So you would suggest continuing to compete without being in the correct headspace/ dealing with depression. That would be better than taking time off to regroup/recover from it? That’s a dumb take.

Continuing to attempt to compete while not properly dealing with it would be like playing with an injury. Continuing without healing is just going to make it worse.

The problem people have with depression is it’s not visible and not everybody deals or has dealt with it so they can’t relate. It also becomes a political issue somehow too which is ridiculous as well.
No, I'm not suggesting she should compete if not in the proper frame of mind, just the opposite. I'm saying she shouldn't have competed in that event in the first place if her frame of mind wasn't right. But she did compete, bombed her performance and then withdrew because of mental stress/depression thereby depriving another deserving gymnast of the opportunity for a medal. That was incredibly selfish on her part IMO.

The fact she was mentally fine and competed in another event less than a week later is suspicious to me. I know about depression and don't buy her story

I really wish the narrative on this would change from I have issues and I struggle to this is how I cope with it and this is what may cause it. Obviously people naturally have depression, anxiety etc, but there are ways to manage it naturally that really isn’t talked about as much as it should be. Obviously you can’t just eliminate it overnight. I wish more people talked about how alcohol, drug use, and social media impact your mental health negatively. And I’m not saying those guys you listed have depression because of alcohol use etc. I just wish people got that message out there more that there are lifestyle changes you can make to improve your mental health.

If you’re a 23 year old and you spend Thursday - Sunday drinking, doing Coke, eating like ****; and not exercising then yeah your mental health is going to suffer big time especially when you throw in chronic social media use during the week.

TrumpyCane is only 2 years old doing that and is prospering

The problem I have with Biles is she withdrew from the competition after a terrible performance and then less than a week later is competing again. Definitely raises suspicion
She got the yips aka the Twisties (you lose awareness of where the ground is). But this isn't putting a golf ball, she's doing something that will put her in a wheelchair for the rest of her life if she doesn't land right.

From the NY Times, "In the days leading up to the Olympics, Biles had been struggling with a few skills and was trying to overcome a mental block that kept her from easily performing her routines."

My point is she was having mental issues/stress in the days prior to the event so she should have withdrawn prior to the event so someone else, another deserving gymnast, could compete. Instead, she competed, bombed and then quit, but was able to compete less than a week later

Please just shut the fvck up and self-ban for a few days.

You know NOTHING about mental health struggles. You are trying to make it as binary as a broken bone. There are multiple layers to unpack, and I'm not going to waste my time with an obvious ****** like yourself who refuses to open his mind to the complexity of mental health issues that a top athlete faces. Particularly when there are no formal diagnostic and/or objective measures that make it easy for a professional, let alone the athlete himself/herself, to be able to assess whether it is safe to compete in such a situation.

Leave this topic, you are as bad as "Parks4gaytors" on the Issiah Walker thread on Swampa$$ 247.

I mean biles literally went through a situation where she couldn't see herself make the landing. in gymnastics, thats the end where you shouldn't compete. however, she's far from a person who can't handle the pressure. she's literally one of the. greatest gymnasts of all time and absolutely elite in her profession. Ricky Williams struggled with mental health issues and anxiety his entire career and he was elite. the statement that you can't be elite was ridiculous. many elite athletes and professionals struggle with mental health bc it all diff causes
its called pressure. Athletes have been facing that since the beginning of time. Ricky had a mental health issue-which was clear in his actions before and after his time in the league.
Some athletes have used it as another form of load management. Believe what you want

Throw in 36 holes of golf and I’d swear you were spying on AJcane around the summer of 2015.

I seriously thought he was already gone. Wish the kid luck. Not sure he ever plays a down of college ball.

Get off your sanctimonious high horse...I never used profanity in any of my posts. Got it, we disagree

LMAO you sir are a clown.
Why is he a clown? Is it because his statement isnt as politically correct as you would like? Is it because the issue of mental health is so politically charged that everyone is expected to walk on eggshells and give out the same canned answers while regurgitating the same PC talking points? His statement isn't so farfetched or outside the realm of possibility. Yes it is true that the issue of mental health and mental illness should be taken seriously. Individuals suffering from mental illness should not be marginalized r stigmatized and should be treated with due consideration and compassion. At the same time there have always been those who would try to exploit the kindness and compassion of others for their own selfish interests. My father had a good career exposing those types of people. As a forensic psychiatrist my father was very much in demand for that specific skill. My father was the first board certified bi-lingual forensic psychiatrist in the United States. Back in the 80's then Florida State Attorney Janet Reno would call the house often. The irony of all this is that there was another side to my father that those who knew him professionally had never seen. You see my father the successful psychiatrist suffered from bipolar disorder also referred to as manic depression. So you see, the issue of mental health and mental illness is something well known to me and my family. I had a front row seat to a movie I wouldn't wish on anyone. For a child to have to witness his father go from Dr. Jeckyl to Mr. Hyde without understanding the context was a gut wrenching and life altering experience. The good news is that my Dad just turned 85 and he is 500% better and has been for many years and we are closer than ever.

ill believe someone who actually struggles with it vs a random just assuming thats what they're dealing with especially someone w zero background
