Miami, Florida, and Florida State have all done battle on the recruiting trail for a South Florida prospect many times before, but it is usually not for an offensive lineman. This year is different as one of the best offensive linemen in the country, Miami Norland’s Issiah Walker, is choosing between the three big in-state programs. Walker got a chance to visit all three schools and watch all three practice last week.
“I enjoyed my time at each three of the schools. I am looking at those three schools specifically.”
At practice, Walker got a chance to watch all three offensive line coaches teach the players on their respective rosters. After observing the three coaches, one, in particular, is standing out.
“Coach Barry. He was in the NFL for several years. I really like his coaching. I really use that stuff almost every day. He teaches me.”
Coach Barry is the one leading the charge for Miami, and he and Walker have developed a solid relationship.
“We communicate almost every day or every week. He’ll usually send me videos on the O-Line blocking, showing the techniques, showing how he can really coach at an NFL level.”
Although Walker will most likely end up staying in-state for school, something about Miami is just different from the other two.
“You put on for your city, that a big thing for me. Also, my grandparents live right down the street from here so they could watch me anytime they want to.”
Norland loaded up their schedule for Walker’s senior year, and the talented offensive tackle is ready to get after it.
“We are going to play with a chip on our shoulder this year. We have a really good O-Line. We have running backs, and they improved a lot. They are all game-changers.”
Walker is focused on leading Norland to a successful season this year, so he does not have many visits set up right now. However, he is planning on being in Orlando later this month when Miami takes on Florida. As for a decision, Walker will most likely wait until his season is over, but he hasn’t ruled out making a decision during his senior campaign. Walker will sign and enroll early at the school of his choice.
