Is Toney the GOAT UM Freshman?

Yes and it’s not close. I loved Duke but Toney is better and is harder to bring down.
Literally every other time he touches the ball he does something extraordinary; whether its keeping balance to gut out a few extra yards, making a tackler look stupid or making a one-handed catch look routine - the kid is just plain special.

Impacts the game in so many ways, a truly sensational player. We'd better break the bank to keep him (a little concerned about Kansas State's push, but generally think he prefers UM)
Wait a minute.. You think K-State has a snowball's chance in **** to steal Malachi Toney off our roster? Did I miss something here?

I don’t know that I’m worried about K-State specifically, but everyone has the same $20.5 million, right? And we’ve got a lot of players to pay with that budget, and a lot of incoming players too. It’s not crazy to worry about a smaller school that doesn’t have a lot of stars and might could offer a large portion of their budget to a guy like Mali to try to steal him away.

It’s just message board conjecture, sure. But it’s also hoping that we have a solid plan in place with the NIL and other opportunities so that we can hold on to our key players. I saw something earlier about how Auburn is moving a home game to Atlanta so that they can maximize additional NIL opportunities for their players and get around the $20.5MM limit. We need to be doing things as well that put us in a position to get our players as many opportunities as possible.

duke was awesome. he and i were freshmen at UM the same year, and my intro to UM football was watching him tear it up. i'll always have love for him as a player.

that said......it's toney. i don't think i've seen anything like him.

He’s not better than Duke Johnson yet
Duke has a slight edge IMO but it’s razor thin.

Was looking up his stats in 12’ to combine with the impact I remember him having every game. 7 YPC with 10 TD’s, 10 YPC with a TD, 2 KO return touchdowns, and even threw for one as well.

I know the teams had some reasonable pieces while he was here. But IMO we lose another 5-6 games at least during his tenure if he wasn’t here. He was a gem.

Got into this discussion but there is a real arguement to be made he should be first team all American. Not freshman all American, one of the 3 best WRs in the country. Punt returner, wild cat runner, jet sweeps, throwing the ball, complete focal point of the offense- look at the stats by the top WRs - I think bias aside he should be an all American.

In 12 games, he almost broke the single season reception record at UM.

He did this while making the biggest plays in the biggest games and carrying an entire coaching staff on his back for some of the games.

Yes, he's the best Frosh in the history of program.

It may be one of the top 25 individual seasons in the history of the program.
