Is Toney the GOAT UM Freshman?

If we have to compare Toney’s freshman season to Duke Johnson’s, I’m going Toney. Duke was electric and a joy to watch but he wasn’t even the starting running back. Mike James got more carries and caught more passes. Duke was a much better player than James but it was very much a shared workload. Toney has more than double the number of catches of our second leading receiver, Keelan Marion.

We’ve both said it in this thread. The most obvious marker is that one carried an entire offense on his back to actual wins and the other did not (could not). Duke didn’t have the same team, but he also wasn’t ever given the same weight. For the last 4 games, if you know even a little bit about football, you could see that an entire offense ran through a 18 year old slot WR’s every alignment and motion. That’s unbelievable, really.

Our offense now 100% revolves around him. Everything we do offensively is to either get Malachi the ball or use him to drag opposing defenders away from where the ball is going like a magnet. What he’s done this year is absolutely remarkable. He never looks overwhelmed
