I bring your attention to the letter below written by the president of the University of Miami Donna Shalala.

Let us now compare two coaches and their tenures.

Coach ABC

Term: 4 Years
Overall Record: 28-22
Conference Record: 16-16
Final Season Record: 7-5 (5-3)
Best Season: 9-4 (5-3) [Season 3]
Best Conference Record: 5-3
Record against FSU: 2-2

Coach XYZ

Term: 4 Years+
Overall Record: 28-21
Conference Record: 16-16
Final Season Record: 6-6 (3-5)
Best Season: 9-4 (5-3) [Season 3]
Best Conference Record: 5-3
Record against FSU: 0-4

When comparing coaches ABC and XYZ you will notice almost identical records. Both coached at UM for 4 seasons. Both coached the same amount of conference games and finished with an identical conference record. The first glaring difference between the two coaches is their record against FSU (biggest rival). Coach ABC finished 2-2 against FSU. Coach XYZ is currently 0-4.

Coach ABC was fired after losing to USF in his 4th season.

Coach XYZ has not been fired and has been further backed by the President of the school (Donna Shalala) and the athletic director (Blake James) recently.

The second glaring difference between the two coaches is Coach ABC is African-American and Coach XYZ is White.

My question for you is how does Donna Shalala and her administration fire Coach ABC, then write the letter above, but still retains Coach XYZ?

lol again, the only people who have that right to fire golden r the BOT and if they say golden has to go, he will go. the president is on her way out and the BOT wont let her make a decision like that in her last year and blake has no power. no one is racist, its just the circumstances that are in play right now. from what i heard, the BOT wants to give golden a chance to make his own staff changes before they fire him. we will see. go to the other athletic events and have a sit down w DiMare, Miller, etc. and they'll tell you the same. i dont support golden at all or what has transpired the last decade here and each day i hope golden is canned, but i know its not in anyones hands but the BOT. the sooner u guys realize that the pressure needs to be placed on the BOT, the better it will be. theyre the only ones w power right now

both coaches are terrible though but dont be stupid in thinking that randy wouldn't be 0-4 against Jimbos FSu either. Randy played a much weaker FSU team than what we've seen the last two years and really the last 4.

Shannon fielded much better teams than Golden has. Shannon was bad, nothing surprising for a 1st time HC at a major program. Golden is worse.

Lmao at the notion the University President doesn't have the ability to fire the head coach.

She's in charge of day to day operations at the school. Richard Fain and Stuart Miller have their own corporations to run. It's not their job to hire and fire coaches.

She meant *******-troll-ism is dividing this country. If you are ******* and Troll simultaneously then special legislation should be introduced to insure you are not discriminated against. Read between the lines people! "I Can't breathe......down here!"

yes but if you've listened to the reports and talked w any of the BOT members, she doesn't have say in the golden situation bc of her status. shes a lame duck president and the BOT doesn't want her to make a decision that'll affect someone elses tenure esp one w financial consequences

eh theyre both the same teams record wise. Shannons best year had better wins than Goldens best year though, so ill give u that. Golden played a much better FSU team and shannon wouldn't do any better against them either. bottom line, they both suck and both should never have been hired and extended which falls on the Admin.

ya bc i haven't said that golden needs to go. I've been behind the fire golden train since the VT game last year but decided to give it this year which ended after that GT game. what about the beast report or the barry jackson report about the BOT having the power in this case concerning golden? just choose to ignore stuff thats been out there? barry jackson said donna doesn't care as much bc shes on her way out and beast also said its on the BOT in this case bc of the presidents status.

UM is a racist organization, and it's the worst most insidious type of racist. The type who tells you "some of my best friends are black" or in this case, the type who hires a black HC and then holds him to a much tougher set of standards than the white HC.

Several prominent University of Miami Board of Trustee members this week expressed anger and disappointment about the state of the UM football program and Al Golden's job performance but understand and accept that the administration does not want to make a coaching change.

UM athletic director Blake James reiterated Tuesday that Golden will remain UM's coach. Some trustees still believe in Golden and contrary to reports, there has not been a trustee meeting called to discuss the football program.

Of four prominent, high-ranking trustees interviewed this week, three were highly critical of the coaching. None were authorized to speak on the record.

"I was a fan of Golden's at first but becoming less and less of one," one of them said. "The program is no better now than it was under Randy Shannon, and you wonder whether these [top] recruits will continue to come if he doesn't produce."￾

Conversely, the high-ranking trustee who supported Golden said: "He's a class act. He's a disciplinarian, the kind of guy we need to lead us. We are under a microscope and we can't have off-field problems. I want to win the right way." ￾

That trustee who supports Golden said Golden needs to make staff changes but emphasized how difficult it was for Golden to recruit in past years because of the NCAA investigation.

Among Golden's critics, one trustee blamed him for the team's inability to play with much emotion in late-season games after big losses, saying it's the coach's job to inspire players and to explain to them what they're playing for.

That trustee said he and others believe staff changes should include not only replacing defensive coordinator Mark D'Onofrio, but also defensive backs coach Paul Williams. He said he hopes the trustees can convince James to pressure Golden to make staff changes, though James likes to give his head coaches the autonomy to choose their assistants.

Among other criticisms raised by the trustees, all of whom are successful, respected members of the community: Why does the team often perform below its talent level? And why does the bar for success at UM seem to be set so low now, with simply winning the ACC's Coastal Division the stated goal?

Another trustee said several trustees are praying that Nebraska and former UM athletic director Shawn Eichorst takes Golden to Nebraska. Eichhorst did not hire Golden at UM but gave him a four-year contract extension, through 2019, that pays slightly more than $2 million per season.

Though UM president Donna Shalala --- who is retiring in a few months --- supports Golden, one trustee close to her believes that she would do something to improve the situation, perhaps by pushing Golden to change his staff, if she weren't retiring, but that she has lost some level of interest in fixing the situation in her final months.

Monday night, as rumors were flying that Miami OC James Coley was considering the Kentucky OC gig, I was on my couch watching MNF and monitoring my Twitter feed. All of a sudden the phone rang. My caller ID told me that the person on the other end of the phone was someone I needed to speak to. Because they are not authorized to speak on the matter, I can’t reveal who the call was from. I can, however, tell you that this person is a member of the University of Miami’s leadership structure. I’ve known this person for a long time, and I know this person to be very passionate about the University in general and especially athletics.
So, when I get a chance to talk to this person, which isn’t as often as I’d like, I take it very seriously.
Here are some random notes from that conversation:
-Any decision about the head football coach at Miami will not be made by athletic director Blake James or President Donna E. Shalala. The decision will come straight from the Board of Trustees, with much of the say coming from the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Stuart Miller. Miller, a UM Law School alum, and CEO of Lennar Corporation, is said to be very “authoritative and opinionated.” He’s also very passionate about UM Athletics. Miller’s father, Leonard, who passed away in 2002, was the Chairman of the Board of Trustees from 1995-1999. The elder Miller was on the BOT from 1983 until the time he passed away. Oh, and the medical school is named after him. The Miller family holds considerable influence at The U to say the least.

Any time she chooses? But according to hoops156... I'm confused.

Waits for answer....

of course mullen is there and probably given a raise bc of the performance of MSU under him. i never disagreed w u about the golden. he shouldve been fired after that pitt game (really after GT), but since he hasn't been fired yet, he likely wont be until next year if he doesn't get us to the ACCCG and wins double digit games. it should really be a former BCS bowl next year since FSU would be losing a heisman winner at QB. idk where u got that i was a golden supporter? is it bc i dont call the school racist lol? he's here for another year. accept it and move on.
