Is there gonna be an "open" QB competition?

We'll that's a competition if it plays out that way as well, but King has to earn it. Those other guys aren't going to hand it to him. If it's even then he gets the job, but if he gets outplayed where it isn't even close, then he sits. This is football. You can't hand anybody anything. You won't have respect in the locker room if you do.

He's supposed to be better than everyone else. He has to prove it.

LOL@ respect of the locker room. Look I love these kids but if he is looking to gain the respect of a bunch of kids that went 6-7 while losing to FIU and getting beat by La Tech 14-0.. then hes not who I thought he was. THEY need to earn HIS respect.

This isn't 2003 anymore where Brock Berlin was coming on a team that just came out of getting screwed out of back to back national titles and he DID have to prove himself to that locker room. These kids don't even know how to win. Anyone who is going into their Jr year on this team has a 13-13 record as a Cane and will forever have the stain of losing to FIU on their Cane resume. **** that respect crap. Earn respect by showing these kids how to win and doing that starting from day 1 as the proclaimed leader and day 1 starter.

Here’s my thing, Tate transferred here last year and we all said the same thing. “No way Tate transfers here without the coaches telling him he will start”. A lot of posters said it. Now I would be dumb to say that it’s gonna be an open competition at QB, but there’s no way that if one of the other QBs massively upstages King, they aren’t going to start them. King is the pseudo starter, barring a horrible spring from him, but they aren’t just going to blindly give him the job regardless of his performance
Do you guys who keep trying to parallel Tate and King realize that they came in here with VASTLY different resumes? Tate was a freshman with about 8 throws under his belt. King is a 5th year senior with legit Heisman numbers a couple years ago. Stop with the Tate ****.

Cant see him coming and not being told he was the day 1 starter until proven otherwise. He also seems to be the right type of guy to take over that room and show the younger guys what its about.

If by competition, you mean he's on top unless someone knocks him off.

If I'm Lash, King gets all first team reps, TVD gets 70 percent of second team and the rest can fight for third team. I'll hedge my bets on all three of them not leaving.

LMAO!!!...King has an 11-7 record as a starter, the average record of the teams He started against is 5-7, He needs to learn how win, too.

We know one thing..hes the only UM QB with a winning record under his belt in that locker room that's for **** sure. But I digress. No need to go back and forth..it doesn't matter what any of us think. Any logical person knows King was told the job was his to lose. That's that.

The fact that we had a 5* qb transfer in , not play , and our current QBs get us to a 6-7 record lmao.

Tate should have started all year to at least try him out. King was most definitely promised the job and I bet Manny hopes jarren and kosi leave

WILLIAMS UPDATE

"According to a source close to Jarren Williams, his initial mind-set — after hearing of King’s plans to transfer to UM — is to go through spring practice, see where he stands and then make a decision about his future, though it assuredly would require an injury to King for Williams to have any chance of starting."

"But the source said the situation is fluid. And it wouldn’t be surprising if Williams leaves at any time.

"Some inside UM have grown weary of public comments by Williams’ father since his arrival and immaturity issues with Williams. It remains to be seen whether UM will encourage him to move on."

"N’Kosi Perry, Tate Martell, Tyler Van Dyke and Payton Matocha are the other scholarship quarterbacks on Miami’s roster besides King and Williams. A thinning at the position is expected and inevitable.

Lol i wonder what Jarren QB coach thinks now 😂😂😂

Manny or someone in that building has made sure to tell BJ enough on a regular basis lately to keep Jarren's name out in pubic in a less than favorable light. They want him to leave now. It's not that hard to figure out. IDK why they did't just tell him before the semester started - there was always going to be a grad transfer of someone.

That's not how a QB room works. You have to develop your players. You have to have competition. You don't just say so and so is the guy and forget about everyone else. The starter has to emerge from the pack. If King does what he's supposed to do then, he'll be that guy.
Nah i don’t care about the other guys besides PM and TVD if I’m Lashlee I’ve seen what they can do they stink i got my guy.... why bring King in if you think you can work with them? Manny tried that last year and it didn’t work i don’t wanna see “open competition “ during bowl week lol nah King day one starter and everybody else fighting for 2-3 so If the older guys want to leave bounce. We went 6-7 with a guy who was suppose to be the future i hope i don’t see 15 in the future at QB for UM ever...EVER EVER again.

I mean **** we lost to fiu and he was at QB that should’ve told him everything he needed to know.... lol manny got to save his own *** and he not putting it on JW anymore and i don’t blame him.

If King isn’t the day one starter we’re dumber than I thought. No games. No bullshyt. Tell the team this is our starter so rally or get the fck out.

There are about 20 other positions where they can have furious battles.
I'd sit down with all the incumbent QB's & tell them they have 3 options:

First option, Get the fúck out.

Second option, stay, show some maturity, work yourselves back into good standing by preparing to be the best backups you can be & become diligent hard workers.

Third option, Get the fúck out.

King is the best QB on the team without question & he needs as many first team reps as possible. We only need 1 solid backup in the event of injury, otherwise at least 2 of the 3 stooges can hit the road.

You called it weeks ago that we needed a GT QB. None from last year proved worthy. If Lashlee and Diaz felt they had QB1 on the roster, they wouldn’t have pursued one - plain and simple.
As far as GT Tate, he doesn’t have near the resume King does - no comparison.
It’s a great scenario - King starts this year while TVD learns and improves his game.

I get that they came in with different resumes. And I used what everyone said about Tate as an example. It’s Kings job to lose. My point was that if King looks like *** all spring, they aren’t just going to start him because he transferred to us. That would be dumb on the staffs part. You misinterpreted what I was saying

Exactly how it should be handled.
