Is there gonna be an "open" QB competition?

No need for a QB competition it’s a waste of time... King is the QB which is why he transferred here. Jarren Williams and Tate need to transfer. My boy N’Kosi can be the back up.

Yeah, he'll have to win the job, but any QB with an arm, brain, and solid work ethic could win the job. A dude in his last year is going to work his butt off to be the starter, and to shine in that role. Contrast that to Williams being happy he's the tallest midget.

That's what you want. The best guy to be the hardest worker. We'll see who else wants to compete.

They can have whatever battle they want in the Spring..sure go ahead..as long as King is named the starter going into Fall camp. Spring doesn’t mean much in the grand scheme of things. It’s really for us fans to build the excitement and get us to renew the season tickets. The majority of spring practice is open to the media and public.

Anyone who thinks we told King, “Look, if you come here you will have to earn the job like all the other QBs and we have 5 others going into Spring ball. So come here at your own risk but we would love to have you.” Is really fooling themselves lol. He’s Lashlees hand picked guy. Good luck to the other 5 fighting for the backup job

We'll that's a competition if it plays out that way as well, but King has to earn it. Those other guys aren't going to hand it to him. If it's even then he gets the job, but if he gets outplayed where it isn't even close, then he sits. This is football. You can't hand anybody anything. You won't have respect in the locker room if you do.

He's supposed to be better than everyone else. He has to prove it.

None of he ones we saw last year need to audition. Take the freshman for last year and this year's freshman throw them out against the transfer senior and pick one. He is on and done so I really don't care about that competition either. Just want to see if either looks like next year's QB.

Coaches hunted down Mr. King and anointed him the next great thing & now they're gonna open up competition? Are you people serious? Do you look both ways before crossing the street?

This all day. We have guys with physical ability. We need someone that lives and breathes the QB role 24/7, 365.

Perry and Williams have gotten plenty of opportunities at taking the job, enough with the "competition." They don't deserve another chance

Give King the most snaps from Day 1 and let him get in sync for the season. Don't play stupid coach games.
 
You can live in fantasy land or you can be realistic.

Reality says the ONLY reason a kid in King's situation commits to a program who didn't exactly have a stellar year the prior year, in his ONE remaining year of eligibility, is if promises were made and the job is his unless he absolutely face plants.

And I'm not saying it with a negative connotation. It's Manny's job to save his own *** and win games and King is clearly better than either of our current options (although I still think there is hope for Perry).

King was 100% promised the starting job during his courtship with Miami. I have no inside info and am speculating but I'd be willing to bet money on it. It's the reality of the situation for both sides given the convenience of the timing involved. King gets his one year to show out at a P5 school with an easy schedule, and Miami gets a 1 year bridge to hopefully prepare TVD for the job.
 
We'll see how good He is without Briles, He struggled last year.

And I wanna see this kid get pushed, how He handles adversity, He left His team (AKA quit) last year when SHTF...we'll see.
 
Its King's job but "he has to earn the respect of the players" so he has to grind hard in offseason with them boys..

Will see how Diaz handles it, maybe he wants to see him dance in offseason first before giving him the keys..
 
After bringing in Tate from the portal and him not playing, there is no way Manny can do the same with King. I say that's the case even if he gets outperformed in practice by one of the current ones.

Open is fine for most of spring. Especially with everyone learning a new offense. Fall camp shouldn't start with more than 2 guys and there shouldn't be more than 1 week of competition.

King is probably the guy but it is beyond foolish to assume he's the savior. A good chunk of the board is basically "this guy's the guy" (for whatever position or coach) and then two weeks later it disappears. "Tates" the guy, "Jarren" is the guy, "NKosi" is the guy.... Someone has a decent practice or a not **** game then all the homers come out and act like something was definitely proven.

I just don't get how so many people can be so certain (and brash as of there is no doubt in the world), then so often wrong, continuously making such declarative statements (with almost no evidence).

Sorry, this is a disproportionate response and mostly not at the original poster. I'm just a tad emotional I guess.
 
Here’s my thing, Tate transferred here last year and we all said the same thing. “No way Tate transfers here without the coaches telling him he will start”. A lot of posters said it. Now I would be dumb to say that it’s gonna be an open competition at QB, but there’s no way that if one of the other QBs massively upstages King, they aren’t going to start them. King is the pseudo starter, barring a horrible spring from him, but they aren’t just going to blindly give him the job regardless of his performance
