Is there gonna be an "open" QB competition?

One thing we know now is how irrelevant open competitions are... if you don’t have someone that is a gauranteed starter than that position is trash.

Nobody is given the job. King will have to win the job to earn the respect of his teammates. Jalen Hurts had to earn the job when he went to Oklahoma. He had a close battle that went down to the wire, but obviously won it.

The same is true for King. He has to prove he's the guy. If he performs head and shoulders better than everyone else then he'll be namef the starter earlier in the process.

I’m gonna assume King has been promised the job, unless someone CLEARLY outplays him.
I'm sure they told him, "You saw the crap we rolled out at QB last year, right? Now, do you want the job? Can you handle beating out those guys? If so, the job is yours."

Yeah, he'll have to win the job, but any QB with an arm, brain, and solid work ethic could win the job. A dude in his last year is going to work his butt off to be the starter, and to shine in that role. Contrast that to Williams being happy he's the tallest midget.

I sure hope not. I'm fine with giving it a couple of practices just for GP, but there's no reason to go almost to the start of the season trying to give 3-4 guys meaningful reps. Name King the starter and be done with it.
No

hopefully starter in place week before spring game. agree or disagree but I personally think a team is better off f the starter is working with the first team at least the last week of spring practice and throughout fall practice. just my theory the more reps the starters have together the better off the tem is

This is different than last year. Plus, it sounds like King has a work ethic. There's also plenty of tape of him proving beyond much doubt that he has quicker processing capability and higher football IQ than anyone else currently in the QB room. He's proven that he can play fast. That's a big part of what I'm looking forward to......I desperately want to see our guys playing fast again.

50td’s and 6 int’s in 10 games. If he has two broken legs and an arm amputated he still starts over what we have now. Have an open competition or don’t, doesn’t matter, once the 5 other guys in the qb room see what he can do, they’ll understand they’re playing for backup time

I think it'll be "open" in coach speak terms, but it'll be pretty clear that King is the guy.

I'd expect Perry to transfer, and wouldn't be surprised if Williams does the same. I'm hoping Williams stays though to see if Lashlee can make something out of him.
Yeah it will be open in coach speak but we all know King is the guy but Perry won't go anywhere . He loves the Canes too much. Williams and Tate are gone though. Perry I think is fine with being a back up as long as he can be a Cane and be with his brothers.

Why wouldn't there be?

It serves zero purpose for Blake-Diaz-Lashlee to have anyone QB1 who isn't the very best athlete to get Ws.

These "agenda" conspiracy theories are ludicrous.

Competition was the 3 guys work during the 2019 season. Move on. Lashlee isn’t magically making them focus and take it seriously. He got his guy.
That's not how a QB room works. You have to develop your players. You have to have competition. You don't just say so and so is the guy and forget about everyone else. The starter has to emerge from the pack. If King does what he's supposed to do then, he'll be that guy.
