Is there a WR1 on this team?

It's pretty well-documented that Miami wanted a WR1 in the Portal. Unfortunately, they didn't have the QB lined up in winter (when supply was good) and the supply wasn't there in the spring. So it ends up as a miss.

But someone still needs to fill the targets. Who is going to emerge as the WR1? Keelan Marion strikes me more as a versatile #4, and CJ Daniels is more of a contested catch/possession guy until he proves he's as healthy as he was at Liberty.

IMO, the upside of this group will depend on the emergence and health of JoJo Trader and Malachi Toney. Those are the two with clear star potential.

There isn't a clear one on paper - as D$ and others have pointed out its most likely Trader or Toney, but it wouldn't shock me to see our top 3-4 pass catchers be fairly even statistically. For example:

WR1 900 yds, 8 TDs
WR2 800 yds, 5 TDs
WR3/TE 750 yds, 6 TDs

Then -
WR4/5/TE/RB 800 yards combined, 8 total TDs

Totals: 3250 yds, 27 TDs

I think Beck will spread it around. He's kinda never had a number 1 wr. The only one he played with was ladd mcconkey and he was hurt most of the season that Beck was the starter.

just bc bowers isnt a WR tech, he was their number 1.

JoJo, Lofton, Carr, and Toney. I think getting great production from 2/4 is what we need + a surprising year from someone else.

WR by committee. No definite WR1. A true WR1 would have helped a lot with the game on the line. But I generally don't see that as a inhibitor to offensive production or Beck's effectiveness.

Currently, Miami does not have that star #1 WR. That said in college football it's a luxury, not a necessity. In college, you can scheme players open and not rely on the one v one battles. None of the WRs from last season's team were drafted and the passing game was best in the nation.

Then again, I hope JoJo makes that leap. He looked uncover able against Iowa State in the bowl game.

True but even Brock Bowers had his worst season statistically at Georgia the year he played with Beck.
He played in 5 fewer games in 2023 compared to 2022 and 2021.

He actually averaged almost 10 more yards per game compared to 2022 and almost 15 yards per game compared to 2021. He also had almost the same number of TDs compared to 2022 (6 vs 7) despite playing in 5 fewer games.
