Is the run game all but extinct in modern American football

Run game is different. Teams are looking to pass early and run out of lighter personnel to enforce lighter boxes and hesitant linebackers.

Those are institution pants, and of course in the institution you can only wear slides, or shoes with no laces.

And as far as his 80/20 assertion, it literally takes 20 seconds to google P5 passing statistics for last year. And for most teams, it’s not that far from 50-50 passing-running attempts per game. Don’t believe me? Look it up yourself.

There are some outliers, but if you look at the top 20 to 25 teams, for those teams, passing attempt percentage rarely exceeds 55 to 60%, so offenses are still fairly balanced, even though the percentage of passing has increased over time, it’s nowhere near the ridiculous assertion of 80–20.

They may need to add some mood stabilizers to OP‘s treatment regimen.

Mike Leach and Miss. St. is the closest at 73% pass/ 27% run and they were the only team over 70%. There were 6 teams at 60% - 69%. So 7 out of 130 teams were over 60% pass. Vince Lombardi can once again rest in his grave.
 
U need a monster or high round guy that can burn just so the defense has to take that step and look in the backfield. **** like that opens up the offense. So yea u need a beast back there

So only 7 out of 130 P5 teams were over 60% passing yet OP starts a thread saying the running game is virtually nonexistent, or at best 20%.

OP has a ***** loose.

Only 45 teams passed more than they ran last year. Out of 130 FBS programs. Like you said, out of the 45 teams, only 7 passed over 60% of the time.

Miami was a pass heavy offense last year. Yet they only threw 56% of the time.

The NFL is more pass happy. Every team throws more than they run. Still, it’s not totally unbalanced like OP thinks. Most teams throw between 50-60% of the time.

I remember just in 2018 the complaint was that the offense was basically run, run, pass, punt.
