Is talent down in CFB this year?

View attachment 334979This QB class is complete trash. Going to be multiple GMs who lose their job drafting some of these kids in Round 1.
Just like the preseason top 25- at years end , half the the teams will not be in the top 25. Now this QB list --Move Lagway,Klubnik and Manning down. Move Mateer and Beck up. I have not seen the others play.

Do you think drop in QB play is a result of the emphasis placed on 7-7?
No.

It's just cyclical.

There's some really good QB's that will be in this draft, but I don't think most of the guys that will be drafted in the 1st round will be much more than game managers. (With the exception of John Mateer if he goes 1st round).

The best QB's in this upcoming draft will likely be guys in rounds 2-5.

A lot of it is play calling as well. OC's are only letting a handful of QB's really put the ball in the air thus far this season. Most of the top QB's have been dinking & dunking their way through games.

It's been a combination of Defenses are much more improved with massive portal haul adds in the offseason which allows for much more aggressive playcalling Defensively & Offensive Coaches just being more tight in high stakes games early on.

Obviously not Memnon but I think it has a lot to due with lack of starting experience this season. Oregon, Ohio State, Ole Miss, Texas, ND, UGA, and a number of other non marque programs went from multiyear starts to first time or inexperienced players.

Right now some of the best play have been from the non household names Robertson, Hoover, etc

Beck chose a good year to go pro. He's the guy that's going to "emerge".
I do not disagree.

Need to see what he looks like by the end of the year. He doesn't have his fastball back yet, but its too be expected considering his elbow blew up less than a year ago. If he's cookin in November, we'll be discussing him near the top of the board, especally if we are playoff bound.

I was speaking more to the fundamentals of the position. Talent will always be there, but watching these "5*" trying different arm angles and struggling to identify hot reads and the footwork is gross. Seems like the basics are being lost and the 4th and 5th year guys are the only legitimate QBs.

I was thinking about this the other day. Teams like Bama and UGA used to look like they were playing a different sport than everybody else, especially on defense, but this no longer seems to be the case.

I can't really articulate it but I agree, the game looks different than it 5 years back or so.
That's SIMPLY because talent is more SPREAD OUT. The thinking of talent being down in college football is non sense.

What are you stupid or just dumb? 🤣 Of course it’s not important!

Given this year’s crop of draft eligible QBs I’ll be very curious to see how high Dante Moore could feasibly vault if he has a good season. Talent has always been there, if he puts up numbers on Penn State in a few weeks I could see real buzz starting there.

I don't think it's down...I think it's just been distributed across more teams.

That's the thing, the portal really has leveled the playing field. We are all going to have to re-define what we consider to be a "major upset" going forward.
