Is Miami Further Ahead In The State Than Ever?

Let's put it this way -- as of the conclusion of the 25-26 season, Sagarin had the following ratings:

UM - 93.02 (5th overall)
UF - 76.94 (37)
FSU - 75.80 (43)

So UM is ~16-17 points better than both.

Obviously doesn't include recruiting momentum, perception, NIL funds, etc. Those also highly favor UM.

Without doing a deep dive, I find it very unlikely one of the Big 3 was ever this far ahead.

There were also 2 other instances of a team being -7 wins....FSU 2013 to 2015, and Florida in 2006 to 2008. As you'd expect, both those teams won natties in those windows.

So Miami is in the midst of the best 2-year run ever, and tied for the 3rd best 3-year run ever. If we win 10+ games again this year, I'm confident it'll be the best 3-year run EVER.

The gap has never been bigger. FSU is just in such a massive hole idk where they go from here. They need to absolutely NAIL their next HC hire to get back to relevance. They just do not have the $$$ to compete in this era of CFB.

Florida has hope with Sumrall on account of a new coach and look. They are spending a ton of $$$ on recruiting right now. Idk how sustainable that is for them. Also, nothing Sumrall has done beyond recruiting has really impressed me. I keep hearing he’s different from Billy (maybe in rhetoric) but many issues remain. Think they’re a 6-7 win team this year. Their spring game was not good. Philo is buns. They lack depth. Sumrall himself has never been a great offensive coach, which has been UFs issue as of late. Lots of red flags imo. Wouldn’t be surprised if he doesn’t work out there.

The answer is yes, but things can flip in a hurry in this current era. FSU seems lost at sea but Florida gets guys whether we want to admit it or not. We have more momentum and depth, but if we get burned played QB roulette in the portal, things can flip in a hurry.
 
No doubt Miami is head and shoulders above the sisters to our north at this time.

That being said, regarding the numerical computation of dominance, the fact Miami had 3 additional wins due to a playoff format which was not available prior to 2024 does put the thumb on Miami's side of the scale quite a bit.

The Gators had a sizable advantage over the Canes and Noles in 2006 - 2008, the Noles had theirs in 2012 - 2014, and now is the Canes turn. Let's keep it going.
 
Sumrall is going to get his new coach bounce. But anyone following this for a while can see he is not CFP material. He'll stick around for 4 years because the Gators have no choice, and maybe they'll be in the preseason rankings due to brand and SEC bias. We were multiple times in the Shannon to Manny era, too. But that team will be mediocre as long as he's there and will need a full rebuild when he's gone.

FSU is going through their own self-imposed death penalty due to the Norvell contract and stadium renovations. I honestly don't see a future for them near term. They're bad and they're getting worse. What self-respecting coach would take that job at this point? I fully expect them to settle for a Plan B and rinse and repeat.

Meanwhile, we will be a perennial powerhouse as long as we have this guy:

I took this into consideration.

And an actual natty win versus losing in the championship game holds a ton of weight. Obviously.

But starting with the mid-2000s gators, I’ll admit there’s a discussion to be had. They won 2 natties in 3 years. The Canes sucked hard during these 3 years, but FSU went 9-4 in 2008. Not great, but nothing like what the 2 sisters are doing in present day. So the gap was sizeable, but from 1 (gators) to 2 (noles) wasn’t as severe as it is today.

When the noles had their run, Miami was ranked #7 when the 2 teams played in 2013. We all know that wasn’t the 7th best team in the country, but facts are facts. We weren’t total doormats/jokes like they both are now.

So I see your point and I definitely considered it when I made the post. Objectively. And I’m sure if a gator or nole reads this, that’s the argument they’d make. But I don’t think that the gap between mid-2000s gators or early 2010’s fsu was wider over BOTH schools than the one Miami has today.

I don’t know anyone named Ted, but thanks for coming to his talk anyway.

The whole "cloud" over the program was put in place to help teams cherry pick talent out of Miami. I'll go to my grave believing it. That was the biggest nothing-burger ever, and to drag it out for years was flat out corruption.
 
While certain posters think UF is “killing”
something, the fact still remains they hired their third maybe fourth choice.
As mentioned, I don’t think he’s the guy and they’ll be looking in a couple of years once again.

The longer they keep Norvell, the further into the abyss they descend.

Their evaluation process has absolutely tanked their program. They lost 3 key recruiting strongholds that kept them afloat for years, locally Jacksonville/NorthFL, South FL & Georgia.

Now when a kid from any of those areas commits to FSU, it's pretty much a guarantee they're going to be a bust.

And their Portal scouting has been an abysmal, especially at QB.

We have a whole tears thread for them but holy **** are they bad and completely screwed. It’s been 7 years and Norvell has done literally nothing good aside from the stars aligning in 2023. It’s almost unfathomable how bad they’ve run out, and now they’re literally stuck with a guy who they simultaneously can’t afford to fire and can’t afford to not fire. It’s glorious.
