I've really got a crap ton of work to do right now, but what can I say? Being a die hard Cane is a mental disorder. To that end...
As I've said ad infinitum, the likelihood of Manny being our HC for next season is bordering on impossible because I cannot see the administration committing to excellence in our football team and proving it by firing the AD (who they said was good at raising money) that hired the latest jabroni who doesn't deserve the job and who had an unsuccessful record, and then not fire the coach responsible for the unsuccessful record that led to the very public firing of said AD. Manny's gone.
But, in a pretend scenario that I really shouldn't paint (procrastination, you are my enemy!) it will truly be bizarro world in nearly every way if Manny returns. HOWEVER, the only way he could turn things around is if the school overpaid for a stud DC (like, Clemson style overpay for a DC) and did the same thing for the O and then he basically became the lispy version of Bobbah Bowden.
You know: kiss babies, cut ribbons on new facilities, arrive at games in limos... and basically let the head coach of the D, be over the D, and the head coach of the O, be over the O, and just stand out of the way. In the pathetic Coastal and ACC, that would probably work. The more Manny puts his branding and DNA on the team, the player's development, the worse things get.
But, even in my pretend scenario (which won't happen because he will soon be fired), his ego wouldn't allow him to stay in his lane. He would insist on micromanaging his coordinators and being the "the smartest guy in the room." Very much reminds me of an attorney I peripherally "work" with who would be a success and happier if he just stayed in his lane, but his ego won't allow him to do it. That's Manny.
But, cheer up chums! He is getting fired or we have all collectively slipped into bizarro world where Frenk et al act against their own interests.
