Is FSU Actually Good?

The heartbreak is amplified if we beat an undefeated FSU. Isn't that what you want?

I want to break their heart after they lose to Virginia, and for them to have a downward spiral afterwards. Unles it has positive playoff implications for us, and this game doesn’t,
I want FSU to lose every single game they play. Same with the turds.

That’s my religion. Hate your enemy, wish the worst on them every single time.

Since FSU does lots of sweeps and trick plays, how do you all feel about our defense’s sideline to sideline speed?

With all due respect, and there isn't that much due, why would anyone prefer us beating a 1 loss FSU team to us crushing the dreams of an undefeated FSU team? The argument is as old as time but it's never made any sense.
b/c their fans will do mental gymnastics to convince themselves we aren't better than them even if we beat them .... I want them to lose every game they play. Winning 2 last year was 2 more than I wanted.

Feeling great about it because they can't stretch us due to #3 and #4 wrecking the edge of the D. They are more likely going to try to play outside nearly 100% with lots of sideways passing. They can't handle our DL

people need to get out of their feelings.

Going into a prime time night game at Doak vs an undefeated FSU and smashing them while millions watch is way better than beating them after they come off a loss to a mid ACC Virginia. **** FSU, but I want the world to witness us curb stomping them.

That and its way better for our ranking come end of year
No offense to you but this is one of the dumbest takes fans make about FSU. Do people not realize should FSU beat UVA, the winner of Miami/FSU game most likely ends up in Charlotte vs GT? Give me UVA giving FSU an additional ACC loss to help our chances to the ACC ship game. That’s what truly matters. Not beating a fake top 10 team.

First opinion, FanDuel. DraftKings in a few hours.
I was off a point with my prediction, but this is good to see. I will be very curious to see how the line moves up until kickoff. 4.5 is an interesting number because if you like Miami there is no reason to rush a bet on this game. What's the worst that can happen? You miss on -4.5 and get down at -5 or even -5.5? It's not landing on 5. Very few realistic scores can yield a 5-point exact outcome (35-30, but that's likely too high of a score and unlikely to happen, 28-23 is highly improbable, etc.).

However, +4.5 is a big deal if you're betting the dog for obvious reasons. So I wouldn't be shocked if we see some early line movement to F$U, maybe even a drop from +4.5 to +4, but the Miami money comes late IMO.

This has to make you feel good. Bud Elliot whose a Nole fan saying this kinda makes you think he's not completely bought into FSU being an elite team or he would ride for them here. His pre season observations and opinions on them were meh as well and he saw and attended their practices.

Biggest game to watch this weekend is Bama vs Georgia. We still do not know what Bama team FSU beat and if they get blown out by Georgia this Saturday that win over Bama will lose some appeal.

Now if Bama beats Georgia or makes the game close, then we will know we have a bigger fight on our hands. Nevertheless prepare and practice like if you are about to play the 01 Canes and they will be fine. I sincerely believe we will find out more about fsu with thia game’s results than their game vs Va.

False. The transitive property rarely holds in college football.

Here’s just one example:

The 2014 VaTech Hokies beat Ohio State in OSU’s home opener by a comfortable two touchdowns.

We blew out the same Vatech turkeys in their house, 30-6.

Which must mean we were way better than OSU.

OSU went on to win the natty. We ended up with a 6-7 record, and Golden didn’t even finish the next season as coach, as you know, he was fired mid-season in 2015.

Transitive property rarely, if ever, works in college football.

Good. Our athletic ability will not be the problem.

But we will have to run and run and run on defense all game. I can see Mario making sure that we keep the ball on offense as much as possible for as long as possible.

So Bama beating UGa will have no effect on FSU’s win over them? Please, it will only elevate the significance of their win over Bama and will certainly be taken into account in their ranking. Not to mention that the media will also use it to bolster FSU’s position as a top team.
And personally it will only make me lose some sleep heading into our game vs fsu.

Ultimately I think there needs to be some context and clarity on what this FSU team brings to the table.

-Pre-season projections have variance and can be wrong, but this is a roster that Bud Elliot said was put together to get to a bowl game and give Norvell another year. He nailed their issues going into last year. This was not seen as a CFP or even 9 win team.

-FSUs own writers had them going 7-5 this year on average, and rated various position groups as below average.

-Looking across their roster, there is top line talent at WR and RB. However, they’ve got 2 RBs down including their starter Roydell. They’ve also got very little depth at WR. LB is good to very good. But you’ll also see some jags and bargain bin transfers starting.

-Castellanos is a good fit for them schematically. Athletic and fast in space, has an arm but lacks accuracy and poise. He’s a smaller Byrum Brown. He also does a lot, like Jordan Travis, to mask issues on their OL. That is not an OL unit that matches up with us well imo.

-Their leading rusher is a true freshman wideout that’s gotten a chunk of yardage off reverses. Their route tree has also been slats and go routes. They haven’t done anything in the intermediate passing game.

-Their D is similar to last year. Beyond Jackson they’ve got average to below average. Earl Little is the only guy in that secondary that would start here. Bama had WRs running wide open the whole game, but Ty Simpson looked like TVD.

-I think we’ll ground and pound them. They do not match up well with us in the trenches.

On this, look at my second point above. This roster is not a CFP roster. And Castellanos is not even a top 15 QB in CFB. I think they come back down to earth against us.

They remind me a lot of 2023 Miami. Beat up an overrated SEC team but came down to earth after teams had some film. Also, Malzahn isn’t the offensive god that their fans are portraying him as. Doesn’t matter how well he did as an “OC.” As an HC, he got fired at Auburn and was on his way to getting fired at UCF with his scheme. Like Saban said on gameday, his scheme excels against less talented teams.

Norvell is going to throw the kitchen sink. He knows how important this game is for the program. But I wouldn’t be surprised if we go in there and win comfortably in a 34-20 type of game. I do not think they match up with us in the trenches. And their secondary is not good.

Cam ward was not able to throw a touchdown pass against them last year. Just saying
Look at how the FSU secondary schemed us last year - similar to what UF did. 2 high safeties and corners dropping of our WRs to keep everything in front.

FSU last year and UF this season decided they'd rather not give up the explosive pass play and die by 1000 paper cuts, hoping we made mistakes (penalties, turnovers, etc.).

If that's how FSU plays it this year, then their offense will on the sideline and playing from behind, forcing tiny Tommy to throw the ball more than they want him to. Not a recipe for success for them
