Is FSU Actually Good?

FSU is averaging 600 yards and 50 points a game.... yes they are good lol. Arguably the best CFB offense since 2019 LSU. If we stand a chance we will need to put up a lot of points (I think their defense has some holes), but we can't get in too big a defecit.

FSU put up 700+ yards (~10 yrds/play) against Kent State and East Texas A&M.

Against Alabama and Virginia FSU put up 382 total (6.1 yrds/play) and 514 total (6.3 yards/play), respectively.

FSU ran up the score on weaker teams but regressed to the mean against P4 competition. They have explosive ability starting with a dual-threat QB and all his intangibles, but I don't believe they're anywhere near historic CFB offenses that consistently produced over the course of 12 regular season games and into the bowl/playoffs.

Uh, yea. That's what happens.

It's a misleading stat.

Most teams haven't entered enough conference play at this stage to make this a meaningful comparison.

It’s not leading anyone anywhere. It’s a fact. They’ve gotten 31 in every game. I asked a simple question. Will they get there on us? I don’t care who they’ve played, I’m not discussing the validity of the number. I’m simply asking a question based off the fact that they’ve scored 31+ in every game. Of course, it was exactly 31, and their lowest, against the best team they’ve played. So will they get to 31 on us?

Vegas team total is about 25.

They haven't gone against a single run defense in the top 70. SEVENTY. Yes, including Bama. They've also played an FCS team and quite literally the worst team in FBS. So let's cool it with the fsu fellatio.

The reverse of what most people think Miami does may be the most appropriate here against a 3-3-5. There are a lot of advantages to pounding the ball early. You can neutralize a crowd with a boring 7:00 drive. You keep their offense off the field. And you wear on much smaller players tasked with run support. They're going to get through that first level and LB and safeties are going to have the tackle. I could see Miami pounding the ball in the first half and then trying to push the ball downfield in the 2nd against a back end that may be dead tired by that point.

Just survive the first 15-20 minutes. @k9cane said it well this week. A lot of these games are won by the home team in the first quarter. Think us against ND in 2017. We know they’ll be juiced, the crowd will be loud, etc. Don’t let them jump on you and get overwhelmed. I always want to win the toss to take the ball after the half but if we don’t, I wouldn’t hate going on offense first. A nice methodical drive to wear their defense down out the gate and get a lead would be huge.

Watched the condensed UVA game. Specifically, I was watching their OL. The inside of their OL (Leonard and Medley) is a weak spot. They are slow and the weakest link of their OL. Pettus is enormous. If he gets his hands on you, that's a wrap. But, he's inconsistent in his drop and he's slow. I think he's fine in the run game but from a pass pro pov, he's average at best. Hansen seems to be decent.

TC is not going to be dropping back in a 5 step pocket and scan the field. If he did, we'd eat him up. Instead, it's QB sneaks, quick throws and some downfield throws. Going to be challenging for our DL to rush the QB but then maintain gap integrity.

I think their RBs are tough. They do a nice job getting 2 and 19 touches and those two dudes can break runs.

This game will be decided by our interior DL and LB’s. This is Blays moment. There’ll be times our de’s aren’t even being blocked while the midget just makes a read off them . Pass rushing will not be fun this game unless we get up some scores. We’ll have to earn that. Our de’s will have to be disciplined with setting the edge and not biting on the ball fakes. Same with the cb’s. Don’t bite on the smoke n mirrors and eye manipulation. Worry about your job and don’t be a hero. FSU’s entire pass game is based off the run. When they have to drop back the problems start.

If they do that they’ll get to have fun in the fourth quarter.

I think this is moten’s game to shine. I think their run game is slept on a bit - they have two workhorse, physical backs. But, their interior OL is weak.

Cb and safety tackling. They are going to test the perimeter
