Well let's see..........of the 4 viable HOF candidates, Reed and Johnson were starters while Wilfork and Gore got plenty of burn that year. Three of the four DBs were first rounders (Reed, Rumph and Buchanon) and there were guys like Taylor, Antrel Rolle and Kelly Jennings providing the depth. Two of the three LBs (Vilma and Williams) were studs in the NFL and had Rocky McIntosh, another NFL stud providing the depth. The DL rotation had three NFL first rounders in the rotation (Wilfork, Joseph and McDougle) with future NFLers Andrew Williams, Matt Walters and Jamaal Green for good measure.
On Offense we had the RB 3 man rotation in the history of College Football with Portis, McGahee and Gore. No other team in history can ever come close to that and this Clemson or the Nebraska team in question can even touch that. On the OL, four of the five starters made it to the league (McKinnie, Bibla, Romberg and Gonzalez) with depth from guys who had long NFL careers like Vernon Carey, Chris Meyers and Rashad Butler. In the passing game, Andre Johnson and Jeremy Shockey were impossible match ups for any defense.
Finally you say that guys who "sat the bench" don't count. They do actually. Depth matters and guys like Taylor, Kellen Winslow and Antrel Rolle were BEASTS on Special Teams. Quality depth means quality Special Teams and that team had it big time.
Additionally that 46 collective Pro Bowls number is HUGE. I defy you to find another team that is even close to that.
