Is anyone concerned about DE group going foward?

New era of football, everyone is utilizing the portal. Why wouldn’t you? Plus Miami will be a popular for that anyways who wouldn’t want to play their remaining eligibility in Miami? Ain’t nothing wrong with it
FSU just got a 6’1” 190 lbs CB from the portal, who played HS at American Heritage HS, former Arkansascornerback Jarques McClellion.
Rumph, where you at? SMH
He played at American Heritage Delray not the one Rumph coached at. Though Rumph is from Delray and should be aware of the kid. lol

I thought that might be the case until I saw he was playing this year in high school at 285. I don't think. He's going to be lining up at DE often if he’s really gotten that big.

There is a lack of experience at DE but this is a position they have recruited well. It’s not like corner or linebacker where we’re hoping lower rated guys come through for us. The depth chart at end is full of big time prospects. We’ve always gotten production from the position too so I’m not concerned. This is how the entire roster should be at a real program. Replacing 4 and 5 star guys with more 4 and 5 star guys. Depending on how the NCAA wants to handle initial counters next season, I could see taking a transfer end (we should be appealing to any interested parties) but there’s more glaring needs if we only have the three counters left.
I dont think he can play DE here either. Guys that were smaller than him coming in they are having play 3 tech currently. Hes bigger than Elijah Roberts now. And Elijah could play end

Harvey was pretty good this year. Had 3.5 TFLs in only about 180 snaps. That's something like 14 over the course of a full season.

He only had 0.5 sacks, but he had a ton of pressures. I think next year (and hopefully in the bowl game) some of those turn into sacks.

Cam Williams consistently put pressure on QBs in his small amount of snaps this year can’t wait to see what he does as the starter. Excited he seems more twitchy then Roche. Hopefully Williams and Harvey know how to set a ******* edge !

Yes I'm very concerned about the whole Defense actually. Your best Developer is a CB Coach who isn't even qualified to coach at Miami. Be very very very afraid next year against Bama. I can see them rushing for 900 Rushing Yards.

It means there are roster holes that need to be filled and we don’t have upperclassmen to fill them. There’s only three guys on the staff who have been here more than two years so it’s hard to get on them too much for previous coaches’ recruiting short comings. Now, one of those guys who has been here is Rumph but I’m not turning this into another one of those threads.

Banda has been here for 5yrs... Manny has been here for about the same.

Rumph the same amount...

Patke 3yrs... Next yr makes 4...

So your post is false.

They all suck fire them all.

I remember when we had the same concern when Rousseau opted out.
I had to change this to an agree vote. Because we've always worried about the DE position since Chad and Joe, then Garvin, etc. And we've actually have gotten better to the point we may have 3 1st round DEs. But also at the same time, I would like to see a DL coach that can also teach these young men gap integrity and defending the run

Which one of Cam's 3 tackles this year impressed you more than Harvey?

I think Harvey takes a big leap this off season. You can't hold a guy down with that athletic profile for too long. He was just extremely thin and light in the ***. I think Cam and Chantz will make a solid 2nd string to Harvey and a portal guy.

The other name to watch out for is Blissett. I heard he wasn't holding extra weight as well as anticipated and is going to play DE going forward and he's adjusting very well there - they moved Q to DT instead.

There's also some versatility to be able to play Leonard Taylor and Elijah Roberts if needed due to their frames filling out but still having a great athletic profile.

Not too worried because i think we easily pull a guy like Jermaine Johnson who was one of the better pass rushers in the SEC in limited snaps this year. If we strike out in the portal... I'll be pretty concerned just because of a lack of productivity returning.
I don't trust Harvey

The concern is always valid. But someone steps up. I wish that was true at all positions.

Didn’t Manny promote Patke when he got the head coaching job? Even if not that makes four coaches who have been here more than two years. You don’t think the fact that we had to take two ends from the portal had anything to do with the previous d line coach not recruiting well? We would have had to run out a bunch of freshmen and sophomores if we didn’t have Roche and Phillips. Or the fact that we were desperate for a transfer offensive tackle because the previous offensive line coach left the cupboard bare? Or how about desperately needing a transfer QB because the last QB coach recruited a bunch of guys who can’t play. Notice the trend here? The spots where we’ve needed transfers were all positions recruited by coaches who aren’t here anymore. Besides corner but that dead horse has been beaten into the ground.

Mew too, but this place tends to fret about every little thing. The defensive ends aren't a big concern regardless of how good they are if they're two yards behind the quarterback on a rushing play.
I’m less concerned about DE than I am about the number of posters in this thread that don’t realize they know very little about football.

That concerns me as I prepare for the complaining when the backup DEs don’t perform like first round picks in the bowl game.

To answer your question. No. Believe it or not Cam and Harvey are better vs the run than Roche and Phillips.
However they’re not better at pass rushing.
