Is a victory vs. Notre Dame game a program changer?

A win against Notre Dame keeps us headed in the right direction. Competence breeds confidence. We are still a work in progress but the the coaches are doing their jobs, the players are doing their jobs and the fans are doing their jobs. We are still building the current state of the program but a win over ND will help with recruiting, national exposure & recognition and further fan support. Go Canes!

We're back when we win the NC.

I disagree, no one would say that the 2000 or 2002 teams were not peak Miami despite no NC. Lots of Miami teams in the 80s and 90s came up just short but were still considered peak Miami. What did all of those teams have in common? They were in NC contention. You can't always win, but if you're getting that close you're elite.

Beating ND is important stop on the way back. For the moment it is the most important game since the OSU cheater game. Once we win it, the next game becomes the most important and so on until the NC game against whoever. We are not back until we take the NC home where it belongs. Getting to the playoffs will innate recruiting but we must win to be back. This is THE U and success is measured by winning NCs, period. How many NC games did we loose? It was a bunch but we only remember that we won 5.

All those games I mentioned never reflected that we were "back" but were definitely program changers.

Because we had one that 1st one. Then it was years of "the road to the title came though Miami". It was ours unless taken from us. 15 plus years of not mattering makes it mandatory that we win one, otherwise we are pretenders.

I'm with those that think we'd be back even if we don't win the NC this year, much like the 2000 team was back and the win over FSU in 2000 was a statement game. Sure, we're not going to throw a parade if we beat ND but then lose to Clemson in the ACCCG or in the playoffs, but it would signal to everyone come Saturday night that this team is a force to be reckoned with, a team that will only get stronger with next year's recruiting class, and not a team anyone wants to face. ****, we're hosting ESPN Gameday in a November game. That alone speaks volumes. All those 4 and 5 star recruits that have been leaving So Fla the past 10+ years to play elsewhere are going to seriously reconsider leaving going forward.

Yeah, I'd say we're back with a statement win over Notre Dame.

Miami beats ND this Saturday, I guarantee the talk of Miami will change around the country!! We all remember our undefeated Canes getting overlooked weeks after week, I GUARANTEE Miami beats ND ESPN might just go out and hire a All Canes crew just to talk Miami football!! That's how big of a WIN it would be.. BUT...........

YES I think if Miami beats ND, that WIN can definitely be the start of a program shift.. A lot of ppl on here have said it before, IF Miami WINS the recruits will come, and after seeing all the top recruits at Miami for this game, all a WIN will do is make kids start jumping on board right away.. BUT of course Miami has to WIN and get to the ACCCG and WIN it before we will see the roof blown of the building, NOW IF that happens this year, Miami will need a answering service at the school, because every commit in the country will be calling for CMR trying to set up a visit!!

Let em know!!! We lose Sat. We are out!! So whoever thinks we will still make the playoffs is delusional. We have to win out!!! Let’s go Canes!!!!!!!

Program changer implies this program didn't use to stomp out #3 teams on the regular. It would be a big win and may be a sign that we're back but this program has been there before. '84 Orange Bowl was a program changer.

Stop worrying about what constitutes being "back" because we haven't been relevant to this era of college football at all. Beating #3 Notre Dame and absolutely ruining their season is unquestionably a program changer.

If we lose to Notre Dame and win the acc ship we are in. WTF are you guys smoking?

No way they keep us out.

Program has been changing for the better since Golden fired. Thank you Clemson. One step at a time..Took a few steps back last year but turned around again last five games. Dominating VT was a big step forward. Beating ND would be another big step forward. Making the playoffs would definately put.the Canes in the discussion of being elite again. NC would leave no doubt

Program doesn't need changing. We're on the right path. Winning Saturday only continues to advance what is already in motion.

The program was changed when we fired that fat incompetent oaf and replaced him with a pro.

Winning in Charlotte and making the playoffs is more important.

Not that I want to change the subject but a loss on Saturday means we don't make the playoffs no matter what we do moving forward. We need to win out for the playoffs.

Clemson is a top 4 team and I think will be a top 4 team when we face them.

If we beat them I believe we can still make the playoffs.

So you are assuming we win this Saturday? Because we won't be in the top 10 any longer if we lose Saturday.

You have to look at the whole picture.....like in Hold'em Poker sometimes you play the board not your hand.

Making the assumption we go 11-1 with ACCCG win over Clemson and loss to Notre Dame.

Who are the 4 teams to make up the playoff that would be ahead of us.

Worst case scenario is UGA meets Bama (both undefeated in SECCG), with both teams taking up a spot in final 4 and Notre Dame finishes 11-1.

That leaves 1 spot for everyone else to grab who are the teams left in play.

- TCU or OU as Big 12 champ. They play each guaranteeing 2 losses for 1 of them. Then they will likely play again in B12CG. Strong chance of a 2-loss B12 Champ.
- 12-1 Washington PAC12 Champ with no quality wins that will equal beating Clemson and an much worse loss to ASU
- Undefeated Wisconsin would of course be in.....but what if they lose to Iowa or Mich? Or to MSU/OSU in B10CG? Is a 2 loss Mich St or OSU B10 Champ or 1-Loss Wisc getting the nod over us in this case?

There is no one else...those OSU and PSU losses really opened it up....it would not take a lot to get back in the playoff picture as an 11-1 ACC Champ. ****, if Auburn is able to upset UGA this weekend.....You may only have 1 SEC team in the playoff opening up another spot if Bama then beats them. If ND loses to Stanford then maybe another spot.

Unless you think a bunch of 2 loss teams are going to get the nod over a 1-loss ACC Champ, then I would be wrong.

There have been a few big steps this season that should argue that the program has already changed for the better. First, beating FSU, even a lesser FSU, was a mental hurdle that needed to be cleared before the team could move forward. Second, pulling out games against teams like GT, Syracuse and UNC while not playing your best ball, which is something we struggled with in the past. Third, beating VT soundly with the Coastal on the line.

Beating ND would be a major step forward, of course....but we really need to win the **** Coastal at the very least. Can't lose sight of that. Maybe I'm still a little Goldenized, but consider the possible painful scenario of 1) beating ND, but 2) coming out flat against Virginia and losing the Coastal

Virginia will lose to Louisville or Vag Tech. So even if we slip against them we will still win the Coastal.

IF we win this game there is a slight chance we jump all the way up to #2 or 3 in the rankings

Biggest game we have had in a while but that just goes to show how far we have fallen. This isn't a program changer, while ND is a good team and they may be better than us, they aren't that good.
