Is A&M's loss a good thing for Miami?

Reading their boards there's a lot of division in opinion on what the QB situation will be for them next week. Seems like the majority believe a change needs to be made but doubt Jimbo will do it. Who it should be is split between those wanting max Johnson and those wanting to bring in 5 star freshman connor Weigman and letting him roll. Virtually no one wants to see Haynes King again even though they think Jimbo is married to playing him.
IDK whether Johnson or Weigman would give the Canes secondary more trouble. I do think they will use Achane right from the start to test the Canes run defense..

As for Miami, I would think this loss might give the team a little more confidence they can win this game. Makes TAMU more of a "regular" game versus some big marquee matchup ,if that makes any sense. From everything said yesterday TVD and the offense seem focused and I believe they will put in a good week of practice. I don't worry about Steele and his defensive game plan; the bigger issue is the secondary and if Jimbo's QB- whoever it ends up being- can challenge them. I wouldn't be surprised if he plays multiple QBs...

I fully expect it to be a wild scene there next week...

I don’t know much about Weigman but it sounds like if Jimbo goes with the backup it’s likely to be Johnson.

Johnson is a lot more likely to hurt us through the air (without turning the ball over) but he’s not mobile at all and likely wouldn’t hurt us with his feet. King Can on those plays where we don’t keep contain and in a low scoring, close game, I suppose that could matter.

Ehh don’t think it matters we were going to get their respect anyway now they may be desperate but they may also fall apart if we punch them in the mouth.

They are going to be a lot more ****ed and focused. They will now really try to make an example of us.

But at the same time if we start pulling away, they will fold like you have never seen. Need to put a dagger in them

I think aTM is a prime example of a defense that will overpursure. That makes for some great opportunities to exploit mistakes. Just have to be calm. Pick their coverage apart. Please Lord, let our corners cover

Great question. I think the odds makers will expect a lot of action on this game. Will Jimbo Lose 2 in a row at home? If we win then A&M was overrated if we lose A&M gets a big win over a 13th ranked team. It’s always “a cane thing”

If we get the ball first I hope we have. 13 play 7 minute drive that results in a TD. Just suck the air out of that place from the jump

Does the loss to App State deflate A&M or act as a motivator? Does it shake A&M's confidence and embolden UM? Is there more pressure now on A&M than on Miami to win the game?

My experience has been that being a victim of a mild or moderate upset upset angers and motivates a team. (witness Utah putting up 45 in the first half yesterday) ...but to a huge underdog (and at home ) often will shake a team so bad, they lose motivation.

What do y'all think, the A&M loss help or hurt our chances to beat them?

My call UM 27 A&M 21......saw alot of mental mistakes by A&M during crunch time, They are the ones who have to win our game and they did not look good under pressure yesterday. Couple that with a loss of confidence and I think it will be a tough day for A&M. Sure we have alot of pressure to win, but the loss takes away the cloak of invincibilty A&M has at home with the 12th man.
A little bit of both perhaps: suspect they'll come out with a greater sense of urgency following the unexpected L, and presumably with an increased emphasis on toughness in light of the way they lost, but... if things start to go south for 'em, specifically if our O line does their thing, it may prompt their "here we go again " sort of an extended affirmation of what happened when App State offense consumed a ridiculous amount of clock... and that can affect their effort enough to give us an advantage... Note to others responding, i didn't say we need that to win; but rather, it can
affect a game that will hopefully already be decidedly in o[__]r favor... Go 'Canes

I say yes and no but make no mistake they will be ready for us.

I hope our coaches and players watched closely yesterday what App state did to them. Ran the ball and controlled the clock… we can do that with Parrish, Franklin and Rooster… set up screens and play action which Van Dyke is very good at. We don’t need to get cute or fancy

A&M quarterback isn’t mobile at all. We need our line to get after him quick
A&M QB isn’t mobile? Are you expecting they start Johnson?

Strange take. He’s got ridiculous speed and mobility.

He’s ran for 60 something yards total this year… I watched him run yesterday and get chased down by D linemen. I won’t doubt what you say but I’ve yet to see any of it yet

If we’re not careful, he will gash the middle of our defense with scrambles. Saw gaping holes in our defense on passing downs and that provided enormous running lanes. King is a legit 4.5 guy and we can’t let him beat us with his legs. Gotta keep him in the pocket and make him beat us with his throws.

I think we can run the ball on them. I think that is the whole key to the game.

And turnovers of course.

Don't worry we have flagg to spy him

We have to take care of us. If we do that, we can play a good game that can match most teams. That said TAMU is a team built on mercenary work and they are now one or two good punches from folding.

That's what I was going to say. App St showed a winning game plan, ball control. Gattis' game plan will be ball control with the majority of plays rushing. Canes roll.
If the roles were reversed, wouldn't you be saying "we got killed by ball control, no way Jimbo lets that happen again"?

Film room wise it is good for our team to dissect their weaknesses and try to emulate some things App State did last week.

But of course Jimbo will have them focused and ready for us. We just have to go out there and play our game and trust in our leadership on and off the field.

I never understood the "they're gunna play angry" argument. They got dismantled physically by a G5 OL and had <200 yards of offense, only 9 first downs resulting in only 7 offensive points.

Emotions don't erase how cataclysmically bad that is.

Can they play better? For sure. Are they what we saw on Saturday? No reason to think otherwise.

We lose on Saturday, we're not a good football team. Simple as that.
