IPF

Why would UM need some specific announcement? Just say it and move on. Seems sort of amateurish to have a big planned announcement. The big boys don't work in that manner.

I would imagine this is going to take years to develop with the city of Coral Gables? They are the worst with permits, etc.

It won't take years, not with money backing it. An IPF won't negatively impact traffic around the campus which would be the biggest problem besides money for an on campus stadium.

Multi-million dollar structures are always announced with some festivities....even with the boys.

I wonder who the big donor is, Adidas maybe?

Wouldn't be surprised. That "donation" happened so quick. Adidas see's what about to happen with CMR and Miami in the near future.

It's definitely not adidas. I sat next to our adidas reps at the CWS and we talked about this specifically. For a lot of reasons, they can't contribute money directly toward facilities.

Not really. Most big boy institutions shrug it off and move on to the next thing on their agenda. UM wants a parade for moving into the modern world.

Any news in the IPF? This would have been the perfect weekend to announce something.

This weekend may seem like a good time to make the announcement but is it really? We would be revealing it to a bunch of high school kids, the majority of whom wont play for UM.

I believe the smarter thing to do would be to reveal it to a group of donors or high dollar season tickets holders, then hold a press conference and tell everyone about it.

I'm sure that's what they are gonna do, most schools do it that.

More proof that UM isn't this poor little destitute chump that our fans think UM is. UM's fund-raising ability is legendary. If UM needs something it gets it. Shalala, for all her faults, could raise several hundred million dollars in a few days.

By no means is UM poor...they're just extremely cheap when it comes to things they don't deem necessary

Sure 2 SEC programs and a recent national champion qualify as "Big Boys" ... :monkey-serious:

Canes fans can be thankful for Richt hire. Plans were already in the works under AG, but Richt has significantly upgraded the design. Apparently money is almost in place and the major donor lined up (not a shoe company). All is good.

I think a week before practice starts would be a good time. Gets the fans excited and the story out and then out of the way for them to focus.

This is really big news and a giant step forward for the program.

since UM has the money, it seems that they are waiting for the best opportunity to announce the finality of the fundraising and moving to the permitting stage, since i am pretty sure that the plans have been drawn up. when will that be? i have no idea but certainly before the beginning of the season. they probably did not want to announce it during paradise camp so as to not crowd out the hype.

This week is the ACC kick-off. That actually wouldn't be a bad time to announce things with the extra media attention. Just read that the naming rights have been closed so they must have the big donor already

My dream: Dwayne Johnson is the lead donor. New IPF to be called "The Rock."

Whaddaya think? Dwayne earned $64 million last year.
